Frequent Lux Tech Support Questions
Q: I lost my registration code.
A: Use this automated form to re-send it to your email.
Q: I'm having trouble hosting.
A: 99% of hosting problems are caused by a firewall or router. See the hosting setup instructions for the fix details.
Q: I use Microsoft Windows and Lux or the installer gives an error or will not work.
A: Try going to www.java.com and follow the 'Java Software Download' instructions. Then try running Lux or the installer again.
Q: I use a Macintosh and when I try to start Lux it bounces but then nothing happens.
A: This problem is almost always fixed by running Software Update (available from the System Preferences in the Apple menu) and installing any MacOS or Java updates that are there.
You should also make sure that you have the most recent version of the Lux product you are using.
If no updates are available then:
Mac OS X 10.2 users should go read this.
Mac OS X 10.3 users can try manually installing the last Apple Java update.
Mac OS X 10.4 users should open the Java Preferences application located in
/Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/ and switch J2SE 1.4.2 or J2SE 1.5 around in the list so the other one is on top.
Q: How do I play with a nickname in multiplayer games?
A: The name of the first Human player in the main window is used as your network name.
Q: Where can I learn more about Lux?
A: Try the Lux Guide or the Sillysoft Forums.
Q: I have a problem that is not on this list.
A: Please email lux@sillysoft.net with the details of your problem. The more information you can provide the easier it will be to find a solution. You should at least include:
- What operating system you use (Macintosh or Windows and the version if you know it)
- Did this problem always occur, or did it just start happening?
- What you were trying to do and what happened instead.
The more details you can give the easier it is to solve it.
