alpha test build 4

Post by dustin » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:07 am

Download the newest build here:
http://sillysoft.net/vox/a5/

There's a new multi-player server up as part of it also (you need this new version to join it). It has team-chat (/t blah) and guest-out capabilities, it won't automatically give you a bot when you join, but you can use /transfer to take over a bot. It's set to a 1-minute turn timer.

I'll be around later today, maybe we can get a fast multi-player game in.

The player-info area gained another column. Do you think the scenario player names are deserving of a column?

I object to the whole switching places thing, I find that annoying rather than strategic. If I attack country B from country A, and the player in country B attacks me in Country A, then we should just duke it out and the winner gets the spoils, we shouldn't just swap places, IMO

point noted. Though if you have 2-country-deep front lines then you don't have the switching problem.

I have to disagree -

Try to think of it as you're moving from one place to another, and to find the other army has outflanked you.

I think of the squares as 1000 meter grids, and 2 armies could pass each other...

Or Military Intelligence if you will...

But yes, that is how I looked at it, the troops just did not meet face to face.

Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment, but chasing the lil bastards around the map when I could have been going forward was part of the fun.

Really? Well, I guess I'm just not used to it then.

I would find it annoying in my opinion.

We played some net games with 4 people, it was pretty cool. I found some bugs, so I've put up another new build, which you'll need to join:
http://sillysoft.net/vox/a5/

Hopefully working in this one:
- team chat (/t blah)
- # key shortcuts for dividing up armies
- player info saying who's controlling who

I also threw in bj's map, to show a totally different map example.

The end game right now occurs when one team controls all Castles. But sometimes a castle might just get "raided" and the original team will get it right back the next round. I won the game by accident because I raided the 2 last castles with a few knights each. I would have run out the next turn and he would have most likely taken both castles right back.

I'm making a map right now that only has 2 teams and one of the teams is made up of only 1 person. So that would suck for that person to lose because of a simple raid.

So would it possible to delay the end game until one team controls all castles for an entire round? In other words give the loser of the castle one more turn to take their castle back, if they fail then they lose the game.

On a side note: my productivity at work has gone dramatically down hill, this game is a lot of fun and very addicting. I believe you have another winner on your hands Dustin! :D

Well, one of the problems in Lux is marathon games. I'd like to avoid that in Vox. So that's my worry about tightening the end-game rule.
