Lux Alliance beta 141

Post by dustin » Fri Jan 22, 2016 5:26 pm

Lux Alliance is a team-based simultaneous-turns strategy game, inspired by Lux, Diplomacy, and Axis & Allies. Lux Alliance was previously called Castle Vox. We are re-branding the game to better name it as we move towards a steam launch later this year.

Download the Lux Alliance beta here!

Beta additions:
- makes team-moves visible to all team-mates all the time (requires the server running this latest version to fully work).
- a separate chat area for team-chat.
- limits team-chat leakage even when a player leaves a game.

- Adjusted window and map resize behaviour.
- Use the C+, C-, C9, C0 keyboard shortcuts to resize the map, even if the menubar isn't there.
- Re-arranged the in-game menu options for safety.

- Better online turn notifications.
- Enabled autoplay for fast online games.
- Online games auto-save each turn.
- Online games have the ability to start from a saved game state.
- Online games limit bots used to medium and hard difficulty.

- Added a Mac OS X 10.6 compatible version.
- Updated translations.

I'm re-freshing the online game tracker with the new version. Join the new Sillysoft rooms for some relaxed long-timer games where you can make your moves once a day. Or use the KWIK room for faster games where everyone is present together.

Im a Windows 8.1 User

By C, to do mean the letter C or Ctrl?
Or are those commands only for mac users?

I have succeeded a few times with Ctrl 9 and 0, but its really glitchy.
When the maps gets big the screen froozes on me and I cant scroll.

I will send you 2 new prt sc via e-mail

FYI,

I noticed that the surrender for players are not functioning. In the Crimean War map (currently active), PerseusSparticus surrendered his game and it still allows him to make moves and did not surrender him over to a AI.

I'm a windows user and I was running into the jave null pointer error also on the larger extreme maps so I tried the + and - keys and that worked to enlarge the map.

I tested the most parts with Beta 141, except map editor

Improvements

1. To see how your teammate is moving through the arrows is a very smart idea.
But it looks a bit messy, especially if you have AI as teammate, would be good if the arrows were slightly thinner.
2. The placement of the "Restart Game" is better now
3. I can see the thumbnails for maps now

Problems that need attention

1. Nullpointer is still there
2. Infobox/infopanel sometimes gets stuck and you end up with 2
3. C+ C- C0 C9 does not work at all for me. But map gets bigger if I Use Ctrl 0,
but then I cant scroll and have to go back with Ctrl 9 (Windows 8.1)
4. When income gets more than 100 it causing a minor graphical errors where the Recruti(120)
partially covers "Finished"
5. Surrender option does not work as it should, you can still recruit and move units after ./surrender
6. When you are going to change language it says: " You must Restart Vox..." Should be Lux Alliance and not Vox
7. If I have it on swedish and I use menubar in mapeditor to close down lux it says: "Avsluta Castle Vox"
You have changed it on the English Version but forgot to change it to Lux Alliance in swedish language
Also when I check for update in swedish language it says no update for Vox. Perhaps you forgot to Change Vox on the other languages as well.
8. You have removed the menubar for windows user. I suspect that you might want to adapt it for touch screens, but you can find in mapeditor.
There is a section available below "Start New Game", and perhaps you could place it there.

It feels like I come up with much criticism now but I hope you take it in a good way, just feedback.
We need Beta 142 soon

Dustin, any progress on Nullpointer?

I might have figured out what's about or at least or at least found 2 common denominators.

For me this problem only occur on certain maps, for instance on Hex Lords, Extreme Hex Lords, Naploleoninc Wars,
WW2 Europe, The Crusades and so on.

This maps have 2 thing a common.
1. Mark Bauer!! :panic:
2. The real common seems to or might be that all this maps open up as full window. This is hard for me to explain because
English language is not my first language. But these maps covers up all my screen when I open them.

The map The Crusades behaves erratically, sometimes it opens up as full screen and then you get then Nullpointer and sometimes it opens up
almost as full screen and then you dont get theNullPointer.

Extrme Hex Lords most of the times opens up so you can see the whole map, but a fem times when opened it opens up as zoomed in, these times I even get the scroller on the side of window.

It seems that these map dont know if they should open as fullscreen or not.
I might be totaly wrong about this, but it's worth to look at this.

Also, I discovered if you take over a players game it does not notify you of new rounds or turns times.

I like this turn notification, it lets me know when when there is turn ready for me.
I was thinking if we could have the same thing for team messages.
As it is now I have to open them game/map to see if anyone in my team answered me or wrote something.
Would be much easier with a "message notification"

Thanks for your reports. I've just posted beta 142 which attempts to fix some of the issues.

NOTE: after surrendering, you can still make moves if you want, but the game won't wait for you to end turns. If all players on 1 team suuender then the game ends.
