Survivor Finals: Mon 0ct 29 - Wed Oct 31
A king of the hill style tournament to determine the crowned winners of the overall event. All six teams will be ranked in an arbitrary scoring system to be explained in random pieces throughout the next six weeks. The fifth and sixth teams will compete in a short series of three versus three team events. The winner will then do the same against the fourth place team. A short pause. The winner then plays third in a slightly longer series of games. The winner then against second. Another pause. Final series will set first place against the winner of all rounds prior in the longest series of them all. Every step along the way, the higher ranked team will have option to choose either: a) will they move first or second; b) the specific map or style of challenge. The lower ranked team will decide the choice the higher team did not want. All rounds will feature an even number of games. If a round is tied after the original series, then another two games will be played, until there's a winner.

Each Survivor team will receive a few points, at the commissioner's discretion, whenever one of their members accomplishes something during Luxtoberfest, including: RAW medals, individual tourney medals, single round quint kills, popular choice awards for best sportsmanship, forum influence, map design, etc.

All players will be drafted by team captains during the weekend of Sept 28 - 30. Before the draft, all players will be asked two questions: 1) Rank the six teams in the order by which you'd prefer to be drafted from first to last; 2) Pick a team for every other player. The results of the second question will be given to team captains as a whole explained in grouped percentages, and they will not know the individual results of the player survey. The answers to the first question might be given to team captains, with or without names attached, but probably without names.

Lantern and 3DA will be team captains. I need four more brave Luxers to help lead the way.
If you would like to be a captain, please send me, or any other moderator, a private message and explain why.
Your messages will be shared with the entire Mod Squad, and we will make a final decision together.
The four remaining captaincies will be announced this weekend.
(There will be an official process for mutinying against or replacing captains further down the road.)

The first week of Survivor during Luxtoberfest will feature (minimally scored) friendly matches, so everyone and every team can get to know one another. Captains will have an opportunity to swap players on a one-for-one basis pending commissioner approval in consultation with other captains. Furthermore, any new players to ask to join the Survivor tournament during this first week will be assigned to a team based upon the commissioner's discretion, once again with prior consultation with all captains. As you can see, our six captains will have a fair amount of flexibility and opportunity to create teams of their own choosing. I, for one, look forward to seeing how things shake out between now and then.

These six teams may or may not do battle in an "always open team scrum" room similar to Luxtoberfest in years past. If so, then these games would likely be played during the weekend of Oct 12 - 14, and teams would be given several Survivor points based on their final standing during that weekend's competition. The remainder of Survivor games played between Oct 8 - Oct 25 will be "Mission RISK" style games that will be familiar to anyone who's played Survivor in years past. Some events will be played in 3v3 style formats, while others will be played in 2v2v2 and 1v1v1v1v1v1. Many of these games will be played on new maps with scenarios designed for the event. Every team will play every other an even number of times in each format. (Hopefully.) Any team not present for any match will be replaced with empty bots and kill bonuses will be scored like usual.

Mapmakers: I'd like to challenge all of you to create a new battefield for Survivor. Again, if you participate as a player, then your team will be given a few points for your contribution, and a few more if your map is voted by players as most popular in our competition. I'd recommend map be designed with between 48 and 72 countries with a maximum of 90 countries. Please keep in mind that most team games play best with slower cards, so calibrate your continents and total income with that in mind. Maps can be designed for slow increases like 0% - 10% or faster increases like 30% - 40% or both. I also recommend that maps be designed for either 3v3 or 2v2v2 games but not both. I'd like to play all maps with scenarios, but also imagine that random could be fun, especially if there were lots of small continents up for grabs early. Maps could include "capture the flag" like scenarios were each team must protect an inner compound from penetration and then elimination afterwards. (Players could not be killed before the flag was or else the mission would be failure.) Or maps could be designed with something like "these four single country conts must be controlled by one team for one complete turn" type missions. Possibilities are endless, and maybe we can all get together and discuss a few ideas this week and next.
