Hope it's not too late but could we sub divide the best forum influence into the seperate sub topics? There were some really fun threads in the "Sillysoft Pub" but how could you compare that to someone in "Lux Talk" who may have started a great discussion about the game itself.

Just asking because of the recent posts regarding how even though a luxer may not have time for a game, they always find a way to check in and participate in the forums.

Just a thought  perhaps when a player is "nominated" they could be posted here so people would have a better idea of who is in the running. For instance, last year I did not vote for PSU for rookie of the year because I didn't realize he was eligible.

Packman pisses and moans for not even being an honorable mention for rookie of the year last year

Hey Dustin, can you do two things here please? Can you explain what precisely constitutes Lifetime Achievement? Also, who were the past winners?
Thanks!

Ditto. I assumed that would be bad form, similar to voting for yourself in one of the people categories.

Are the AI and Map Generator categories for all or just those released in the last year? If just the last year, do updates count, even if not a new AI release?

What about nominations for maps? Can we post a list of maps we like for each category, like this or this?

I'm going to say not in this thread. But if you want to pimp some maps by bumping their forum thread, or requesting them in the 2007 map retrospective thread or hosting them, go ahead.

Just in the last year. Updates do count. Here's the list of eligible 2007 AIs:
Chimera
Defender
Empty
Reaper
Trotsky

And the eligible 2007 map generators:
Biohazard
Terrorism
TerrorismOps

BTW: There's no rush to vote. I'll be giving copious reminders when it comes close to the deadline. October hasn't even started yet, so it's possible there will be some last minute entries. Also, the map retrospective will help remind you of some of the different maps. Ditto for Rookie night reminding you who some of the best rookies are.

Ok, IMHO

I dont think an individual map should be represented in more than 1 category. Besides the best map of all time. I think that it takes away votes from that the invidual map in a single category when deciding. (Example) : River Castles is represented in Fantasy and Geometric Shapes. I dont find this map to be a geometric shape map. But when voting people may not choose to vote 1 map in one category because they voted it in the other and I dont find that fair to our map makers.

I thought it was good that maps were represented in multiple categories - I was annoyed that some maps I wanted to vote for I couldn't, as they shared categories with other great maps. Further down, I found the same maps again in other categories against lesser competition and they got the votes they deserved. It's nigh on impossible to cast a vote for all the great maps that have been released this year otherwise...

I second that. It would detract from the contest to have the larger map categories spill over into the less-prolific ones. Drowns them out.

I disagree. How would we decide which category a map should go in? It seems to me that most of the geographic maps are also historical... so do we have a huge historical category with small geographic ones?

Now here's a thought; what happens if a map wins more than one category? Should they be awarded both, or just the category they had the largest margin of victory in? I vote for the latter.

Any plans to add some of the alternate suggeted map awards mentioned in the thread SunTzu linked?

I think Best Playability, Best Graphics, Mapmaker of the year, and some others (best full house map, best offline map, best team play map, etc.) would be fun.

Also... suppose there is a map I loved that was both historical and in a geographic region. I think it could have represented the historical aspect better, so I don't vote for it in that category but in the geographic region category instead.

If all the historical maps were put into only the historical category, do I vote for that map anyway because I like the map the best but think it's not as historically interesting as others?

I say we go ahead and PM dustin our votes in these categories. The worst case scenario is that he ignores us...
