Themes Help

Post by Enzo1997 » Fri Jan 21, 2011 9:02 am

I do not understand how to create a theme at all. The toutorial was no help because it didn't explain enough.

Maybe some specific questions would be a good start. For example, what kind of theme are you trying to create? Start small and then some of the theme experts can help you along.

Themes add a little something extra to your map. Mine are pretty simple. I usually use space or ocean themes with "A Clown Production" thrown in. While they are not important to make the map playable, they can make it look pretty cool or make it a little easier to play. Here are a couple of examples.

The Rome2 map uses the theme to help players know where the "continents" are by using the overground.

Some maps use their themes to add mountains or forests to show where countries do not connect. A good example of this is USA Warzone.

The great thing about the map making community is that if you are unable to figure something out, there is usually someone who is willing to help you. When I was working on Battle for Renay, I wanted a lava background to help it look like a moon with lava oceans ala Star Wars Episode III. Behemoth was more then happy to do that for me and spent plenty of his own time to do it. Did the map need it? Nope. But I think it helped make it look pretty cool.

Also, without themes there would be no Scooter. :scooter

Did you select your uploaded theme name in the map file before uploading it (under "set map info") for release?

Try reading the tutorial again. The question you asked is covered in steps 2 and 3.

Uploading only sends the file to us, it does not link the theme to your map.
