First map - some strange things happening
First map - some strange things happening
Hi Guys,
I'm new to Lux and I started working on a map right away and I ran into some issues. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it's something with the editor.
I have traced my countries and made sure that my borders between countries line up perfectly. I noticed when I make the map larger to be able to see better how things line up and bring it back to the "normal" size that the polygons move around just enough to create openings between countries. This doesn't happen the every time but enough to get frustrated.
Another thing I noticed is when I have two polygon tags within one country tag that they get combined automatically into one tag when clicking on one of the polygons in the map editor. This makes the countries to draw a connection between them and that is not what I want.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Rogue bump. Looks like click undo until it goes back.
Re: First map - some strange things happening
Thanks jesterme, undo doesn't remove it.
Re: First map - some strange things happening
Enlarging or shrinking the map in the editor changes the actual sizes of things. So growing and shrinking can cause things to change slightly. Be wary of too much of this.
Multiple polygons inside 1 country isn't fully supported in the editor. If you want multiple polygons inside 1 country you'll need to add that in the text file.
Best advice: save often. Good luck!

Thanks dustin, I will try placing the polygons without enlarging/shrinking to prevent this.
Regarding the multiple polygons; I did do it in the text file but as soon as I click on one of the polygons (to align) the two polygon tags gets merged into one.

Re: First map - some strange things happening
too many clicks in that environment gets ugly.
but bring the map! i cannot wait to play!

Hi Blue,
The map editor is a bit eccentric. Sometimes a point can't be placed accurately, as you have seen. Undo the last step and place the point again, now at a slightly different position. Repeat until it works. Sometimes it take a few minutes.
You probably want to zoom in to place the points accurately. But zooming in and out many times fucks up the accurate position of your point. My trick was to zoom in 10 clicks (cmd + ,in macos), trace the whole map in one go (really), zoom out 10 clicks (cmd -) and save the map.
There are many threads on this topic...
Good luck, nice to see new map makers...

Re: First map - some strange things happening
Hi, had a look at your tracing image... Some borders are connecting in a cross (north america), or in a sort of spider web centre (asia). That makes it difficult to see what countries are in fact connected. That won't survive the MAPLAB scrutiny. Try to use "T" connections only.
Re: First map - some strange things happening
follow LF's advice.
Re: First map - some strange things happening
Haven't seen your map in the submissions yet. Where did you send it? Email the files to lux@sillysoft.net for us to get it in the system
Re: First map - some strange things happening
I have sent it again and I also removed the star connections for better overview and changed the background image so country borders are not visible when playing with thin borders.dustin wrote:Haven't seen your map in the submissions yet. It reminds me of Classic...
Re: First map - some strange things happening
With al due respect but what's with the dots behind your sentences? If there is something you need to say or prove please do. The dots makes me feel you're implying I copied another map.Lupus ferox wrote:It reminds me of Classic...
