Ok - has anyone been watching Apple's Stock???? I bought a pawltry amount about 2 months ago when it was at 120, and now it is toping 170 - I know the new OS is coming out in a week - and I was planning to hold on to it until January, after the announcement of next years goodies - but I am thinking that if I sell now, I have enough profit to actually buy a new mac... Can it go much higher than 170 right now????
any thoughts from folks who have been following it are appreciated...

If you think they make a good product, hold onto it. If you think it's mostly hype and blind love, sell it.
I think Apple has been waaaay undervalued for a long time, and since they have a small market share, there's plenty of room to grow.

Apple just announced there's going to be an iPhone SDK released next year - meaning the iPhone will become a platform for developers to build on.
I know it's gone up a huge amount recently, but my hunch is it's going to just keep going and going.

Normally I'd say keep it because Apple is a solid company with good growth potential.
Right now though, the market is way over-valued and very vulnerable (much like the US economy.)
Just keep in mind that most of gains made by stocks in the past few years are usually the result of the plummeting US Dollar, not necessarily because the company did that much better.

Sheesh... I bought some about 7 years ago when it crashed down to around 24. I went up and up and even split at some point. I should have bought a shitload then, I probably could retire now. doh!
I think it will max out around 200. But you never know. When they come out with the iSex prototype it could go even higher.

OK . . . Apple Stock . . .
What ever you think about the company, the Price to Earning Ratio is higher than any other company in its sector. Therefore, it is overvalued. That said, they continue to increase their profits quarter after quarter so people will continue to trade with their love for the company rather than strict fundamentals.
What this means is that AAPL is a great hold if you already own it, but if you see overall market sentiment turn, you will likely see AAPL fall slightly further than the rest of the sector. I wouldn't sell it yet, but dont listen to any of us fools.

Umm...I think your compiler's going to stick its tongue out at you for including one too many quotation mark symbols.
By the way, after having taken an introductory C++ class, I find that using Python is much easier.

One of my biggest regrets in life. I had a $5,000 inheritance in college and wanted to invest. The iPod had just been introduced and was really in it's beginning stages. I had bought one of the new ones and really thought it was amazing. So I thought maybe investing in Apple would be smart (I've always been an apple guy). But since I was new to it, I thought it's 15 dollar (YES that's all it was in the 2001, 2002 days) was too mediocre, so I went and bought Sirius Radio (SIGH) and Lily (Drugs) with my money. What a mistake that turned out to be. I would still be sitting on Apple at nearly 17 times what I had bought it for...
Even at 120, you got a good buy Mike. I do think the trendiness of Apple has it inflated a bit, but I think as long as they are staying ahead of the curve, it's definitely worth keeping.

I say sell some of it and buy up any BP you can get. It will bounce back.

Be wary of it. I've heard BP may not survive as BP, but as many sub-companies.

<- Proud 4 year owner of AAPL stock.
Tried to convince my parents to buy it in '05, wish they would've listened.

I sold some and paid off my car. Have some, bought some more. It's a long term investment. Every time I buy an apple product (depreciating asset) I try to buy an equivalent amount of stock (hopefully an appreciating asset).

I got really lucky and bought a share or two at about $120.00... I have since earned enough for every apple product I have ever purchased and the new Imac I am hoping to buy...
Although I am trying to convince myself that all I really need is the mac mini so I can save a buck or two...
And, this won't happen for at least 6 months to a year. Stewpid dollars and life stuff.

This thread is from a long time ago. People are talking the $ they bought in at. The stock has been around those levels recently, nut that's AFTER a 7 for 1 stock split they did awhile ago.
Pretty much 90% of my investing gains have come from APPL. That said, I bought a bunch on a serious dip a few years back.
They are still a great company, I use a lot of their products. While not perfect, I like them a lot.

As APPL approaches a Trillion dollars - I thought it might be interesting to revisit this thread. I don't buy as much Apple as I have in the past; however, I still buy an equivalent amount of stock whenever I buy a device (macbook pro, iphone, etc.) - if only I had the same mentality everytime I bought a song on Itunes or an in app purchase.

APPL is still my biggest stock holding. Partially that's because it's gone up so much
I use and love their products, so gonna keep holding...
