Cry Grinch!

Post by The Silken Knot » Fri Nov 30, 2012 9:56 pm

Cry Wolf! in holiday garb... a game of perception and deception.
An homage to SnyperEye.

The game is now underway here. Good luck!

A workshop of hardworking Elves has been infiltrated by Grinches in Elves' clothing, intent on ruining Christmas. The industrious toymakers are in grave danger of not making their quota of shiny presents for Santa's bag, as the Grinches kidnap Elves one by one in the night. To survive and save Christmas, the Elves must identify the Grinches and drive them away before it's too late!

GAMEPLAY:

If you are an Elf, you need to figure out who is actually a Grinch and convince the rest of the workshop to vote them out. The Elves will outnumber the Grinches at the start of the game, giving them the advantage of numbers.

If you are a Grinch, you need to keep your true identity a secret to survive the voting. You can try to trick the Elves into voting off one of their own... and each Night, your team can kidnap one Elf to improve your odds. The Grinches all know each others' identities at the start of the game, giving them the advantage of knowledge.
  • ► There will be Day and Night phases to the game, each lasting 24 hours and beginning at 8 p.m.EST US (1 a.m. GMT, time converter here).
► There is no penalty for not voting. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.
► In the event of a tie vote, no one will be eliminated.
► No talking in the thread during the Night phase, please.
► Players must obey all Forum Rules, including the one about not posting PMs from other players. You may quote any messages from the Sugar Plum Fairy, however.
The game ends when all of the Grinches are driven away or the Elves are outnumbered.

DAY:

The Day phase consists of discussion amongst the workshop and casting of votes to eliminate a player. As players form opinions regarding the identity of the elves and grinches, they can use the thread to communicate to their suspicions to the rest of the workshop. But beware! The grinches-in-elves' clothing will try their best to deflect suspicion away from each other and onto innocent elves. Please cast your votes in the thread, with the target's name in bold text. Players voted off will be eliminated immediately at the end of the Day phase.

NIGHT:

During the Night phase, the Grinches stay wide awake and plot to kidnap one of the sleeping Elves. Grinches should select a leader, who will PM their choice of victim to TSK before the Night phase ends. Late selections wil not be honored.

The Elves sleep through the Night. Fortunately the Sugar Plum Fairy knows how hardworking and kind the Elves are, and she may visit them during the Night... either to whisper into their dreams, or leave a surprise under their pillow, to help them survive. An Elf may share a Sugar Plum dream with some, all, or none of the other players. A surprise will come with its own instructions.

While Grinches will never be visited by the Sugar Plum Fairy, there's no reason they can't lie to the group and claim that they have. Deception is the name of the game, and you can never be sure if another player actually received a dream, or if they are just crying GRINCH!...

***********

If you'd like to play, please sign up below. Teams will be assigned and the first Night will begin at 8 p.m., EST US, next Saturday, December 8th.

  • jesterme, Grinch 28, WINNER!
    WhirlPlaid, Grinch 27, WINNER!

You obviously did not read the fine print. Ehem. Jesterme proposed that:

(Not in, sadly, but...) if my Bonzais outnumber all non-Bonzais, does that mean I automatically win Cry Grinch?

It was the "Ice Cream Headaches," and I still think that would have been a great name. No one wants to face the wrath of an ice cream headache.

Are we talking integers here? Or can clowns provide you with irrational numbers? (I assume imaginary numbers are right out, being unable to fit within the 1-30 subset)

Darlin', I'll consider any number you provide irrational anyway.

The Boss eyed the new recruits warily as they hopped off the company shuttle one by one. They sure looked like elves, but he'd heard disturbing rumors from the Siberia and Greenland workshops... GRINCHES.

Still, business must go on. They had a tight deadline to adhere to. He gave the new troops a jolly welcome, and sent them to their quarters for a good Night's sleep. "Tomorrow, we'll make some toys!" But then he turned to his foreman and said, sotto voce, "Keep a tight rein on this bunch, Jeff, okay?"

It is now Night One.
Elves, sleep the sleep of the righteous, and perhaps the Sugar Plum Fairy will pay you a visit. Grinches, send me your target for kidnapping, please.

Day One will begin Sunday at 8 PM (US EST). No talking in the thread until then, please.

Good luck, all!

Day One.

Post by The Silken Knot » Sun Dec 09, 2012 8:00 pm

This was Jeff the Elf's favorite part of being foreman... standing at the workshop door with his clipboard and pen, checking in all the worker toymakers. This latest crew was making a good showing on their first day. Some were looking a little bedraggled, but all were present and accounted for, except...

"n00less cluebie! cluebie! Anyone here know where n00less cluebie is?"

No answer from the assembled company. Jeff pulled his hat down over his ears and stomped off to the elves' quarters, ready to give someone a piece of his mind. But when he reached n00less cluebie's assigned bunk, there was no sign of the wayward worker. He tossed the bunk, and a note fluttered out.

n00less cluebie has been kidnapped! The elf will be held at an undisclosed location until after the holidays.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

It is now Day One in the workshop. You may discuss the events of the evening, and, if you wish, vote to put one of your colleagues on administrative leave until after the holidays.

All votes must be posted by 7:59 PM US EST on Monday. Good luck!

I guess I'll go with Kude as well and if he's an innocent little elf, tomorrow I'll go after Plum.
