Defence Algorithm

Post by lemiant » Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:47 pm

Hi everyone,

I have an Idea for a bot, but one bit of the math that I cannot figure out is how to get my bot to understand defense, I'm trying to turn these three ideas into an algorithm:
  • - Defend the borders
    - Protect bottlenecks
    - Put extra effort into areas near high value (i.e. in roman empire II, put more troops on Carthage than some border inside Africa).
The best Idea that I have had so far is to determine the number of troops that it would take an enemy to take over an area:
Easiest route to cont + the number of troops in the cont + the number of territories which need to have 1 left behind in.
However, even with that, I cannot figure out how to decide the best place to put reinforcements.

Any advice is appreciated,

- Lemiant

Hey lemiant,

I think that you're describing the opposite of what your bot would do when it attacks. If you have a path of attack or algorithm to determine attacks, can that not be applied to all other enemy territories attacking one of your territories?

If you're interested in the mathematics behind the expected chance of success or loss then pm me.
