Bay of Pigs Map Page
Bay of Pigs Invasion
April 15 - April 19, 1961
In early 1961, a group of US-funded and supplied Cuban exiles returned to invade Cuba in an attempt to topple the communist government of Fidel Castro.
The invasion took place at the Bay of Pigs (Bahia de Cochinos) on the Southwestern coast of Cuba.
With the support of President Kennedy, the CIA, fresh off recent success in overthrowing governments in Iran and Guatemala felt confident they could take down Castro. They trained, funded and supplied over 1,500 Cuban exiles for the attack.
On the morning of April 15, the attack began with flights of B-26 Marauder and A-26 Invaders attacking airfields in the landing region. Soldiers parachuted in behind enemy lines to target strategic bridges, roads and defenses.
Meanwhile four 2,400 ton transport ships accompanied by CIA-owned landing crafts brought the ground troops. They landed at Playa Larga and Playa Giron. Unfortunately for the landing forces, what was identified as seaweed in satellite surveillance was in reality razor-sharp coral reefs, which slowed progress and sank several ships before reaching shore.
The revolutionary troops eventually landed and quickly forced back the defending Cuban militia. However once US involvement became public knowledge, air support abruptly ended. It also became apparent that Cuba had advance knowledge of the invasion and had effectively camouflaged their air force - their own planes scrambled to the skies to retaliate against the sea vessels and invading land forces.
The invading force got pinned down in the Zapata swamp by the resurging Cuban Army, and with lack of air support, they were quickly captured and defeated.
By April 21, 104 revolutionaries were dead, the rest captured. As many as 5,000 Cuban military were dead.
Now, you can recreate the invasion - Will the revolutionary forces stick to the plan and win? Or will the Cuban Army once again fend off the invaders?
Map Rules:
1) US Aircraft can only attack their designated parachute drop zones.
2) Cuban airports can attack US aircraft in addition to their neighboring countries.
3) Naval troops can only land at the marked beach coastline near Playa Larga and Playa Giron.
Map Scenario:
Player 1: Invading US-led Revolutionaries
Player 2: Cuban Army and Militia

Thanks for another great history map, RG. It reminds me of some of MB's creations like Barbary Wars. I especially liked the game description that really gave context to the conflict.
I thought the map had nice graphics, good gameplay (I tried both scenario start and random start), and made great use of the water army graphics and the Empty bot. The one-way connections of the airfields/airplanes/parachutes were innovative too.
The only weird thing I noticed was that the info box was in a strange place, slightly too far to the right, so that the income column was hidden off screen. I moved it over with no problem though.
All in all, great job. Thanks again! |

This is a really cool map. Good division between land, cities, water, and boats. The airports and beach access are a cool twist, and not too confusing.
Cool beans.

Ah, I never did get around to reviewing this one!
It's good, nice sprinkling of odd connections in with the regular system, it really keeps you on your toes.
The income is nicely balanced, although if you're only playing against bots, I would advise making Cuba itself worth a little more than just 10, that might confuse the bots a little.
Also, I could be wrong, but I wonder if the three-country continents (Jaguey Grande, Playa Giron and Jocuma) should be worth 3 each instead of 2. But that's just a personal preference. Other than that, great map. |

I liked this map as well. Very interesting gameplay...
We also played this map online a couple of times as a teamplay map, and it worked very well! |

Hello, I just bought the Lux system. I played some of the basic intro games, Classic risk, WWII, Roman Empire, etc. I would like to access the Bay of Pigs map/game. I see it and can scroll down a ways. It says "Randomguy" created it. So how do I go ahead and play a game using this map?
Thanks,
Danton |

in the plugins window you have to select and then download the map.
(this feature is only enabled if you have purchased and registered Lux)
After it has finished downloading, just close the plugins window and the map should already by at the top of the list. click play now and enjoy |
