I'm not trying to "get in the middle" of anything, but this is not helping the lost cause of parts of our community..
As to the people who consistently bashed "Dr. Doom" ... calling him n00b and suggesting it was best to kill him first and proceeding to nearly suicide him from turn 1! ... including a certain poster here...
The guy's got barely 200 games under his belt.. pipe down and play your game..
I see a war coming... just like the last time with all the aliases and people saying that everyone was out to get them and everyone was an alias of someone else... the overwhelming majority of the community has no identity anymore...
Now we've got a new war, one which is going to plague Lux and turn it into a wasteland like a lot of MMORPGs... "The GMs (Mods) do whatever they please and don't listen..." "The players are just annoying and they never help you...", I won't go on since you know what I'm talking about.
If the older players are already suiciding and harassing and belittling new players before they even really get a grasp on the game, then not only are we heading down a road that leads to Lux ceasing to be the unique community, we're running down the road at full speed and ignoring our lost breath..
Meh, maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure there is a history with Baden, but that doesn't make it right with Dr. Doom's situation... likewise there may be something with Dr. Doom, but that doesn't make it right with everyone else it happens too.
Newer players are claiming to be veterans to anyone that has at just 10 games less than they do.. older players are fighting against newer players too often and they're splitting against themselves..
Who knows, maybe the churches will actually have a meaning now... the three major groups of Lux: Newbs, Left-Side Older Players, Right-Side Older Players...
Even attempts to help Lux fail like a rocket hitting a plane.. Pack and a number of others know of the other place where we tried to work things out... Smedz had his Monday night going, which was good until it stopped..
I don't even think I want to start my plan, which was basically the same as smedz idea to some extent, since it really didn't even get a hover off the ground, much less enough people that it might actually go on for a while..
Why not find a simpler solution: Just fucking relax already...
Everyone is all tightly wound up around one thing or another that they're too busy to get their head out of their ass to see that the name on the other side of the computer is another human being... they're too full of pride to ignore those they don't enjoy playing with or those that are annoying...
Ya know what? If someone is so seriously harassing, then it will get taken care of eventually... if you don't like someone for some reason, then avoid them if you must, but it's wrong to discriminate against them consistently...
If you go to anything in the real world, you're hardly ever going to find a place where you like EVERYone... so why do some people think that Lux has to be like that? Some people are different, some grew up different, some have different beliefs... get over it, you're not going to change them.
But, instead of just continuing to degrade the community and let it fall prey to corruption and opposing factions, why not do the simple thing and say "These things happen" and walk away...
Person A doesn't like Person B for some reason or another...
Person A chooses not to go into the room Person B is in to avoid conflict or they enter and just avoid conflict or bad situations
Person B enters the room Person A is in, Person A just goes on like Person B were someone else and avoid conflict
Is that hard...
If Person B pokes you trying to get a reaction, then ask them to stop without letting fly like Mussolini from the balcony, and if that doesn't work, tell dustin...
It REALLY can't be as hard as everyone is making it...
This is what I've seen time, after time, after time, after damn time.
Person A is in a room, Person B someone is in the same room for one reason or another, Person A verbally beats the shiet out of Person B who then retaliates, Person A or B then posts on the forum, the topic then gets locked after a flame war, part of the people take A's side while the other take B's side, and now we have two opposing factions... following? This happens AGAIN... and AGAIN... and AGAIN!!!
After a while, people just side with the person they know best and side with the most, then the two opposing factions generally don't interact as well anyways...
Sure it might change, but either way, at any one given point, if you put people into "People who like Person A" and "People who don't like Person A" , then do the same with B... you'd find that it's basically two groups... and while the people may switch, generally the people just identify with the others and then you get people who don't like others based on hearsay.....
So, since I'm certain nobody gives a damn to read that far, /endrant

For all the ill will and worrying about the quality of play declining, this kind of move on your part, pack, is not going to improve anything.
Give Baden a chance at least, I just finished a game with him that was very enjoyable, but don't take my word for it, try it for yourself. |

YES! YES! Much better! This is what I was going for when I posted. I was giving everyone a free shot at me. And you're right man, I should give Baden a chance, I mean, I've only played him 129 times. Pack: All that this thread has accomplished is create a bunch of ill will on one side or another and ultimately degraded the quality of the community, which is exactly the thing moderators are supposed to guard against. If Baden was going to come forward with his complaint, let him complain, and then defend yourself. However, you've goaded Baden from the beginning, trying to make yourself look like you're being discriminated against and punished when you brought the topic up in the first place.
You just can't get the buttons these days...

Packman. Seeing as you have played Baden 129 times, and the play examples mentioned above, I will not say you were incorrect in not letting him play in your room. That decision seems okay with me.
However...
IMO, coming to the forums, posting an attack disguised as a defense, seems to be a very inappropriate choice. Baden is right; he has yet to say one bad thing about you (in this forum at least, which is all I know about the subject), and you attacked him first and clarified later. To me, as an unbiased third party, you're the one who sounds juvenille here.
After reading Eice's post, (and I am glad Baden re-posted it... there's some good stuff there), I feel the need to say that I don't really know anything about either of these people. I don't want to pick a side here, but I do want to say that Baden has been conducting himself much better than yourself Pack... and he's the one who was provoked. |

Well, I'll weigh in.
I know Packman, and I know Baden.
I am one of the most tolerant hosts in Lux.
Baden repeatedly pisses me off, with halfkills, killing remotes for no apparent reason, etc. Now granted, these are all "fair" moves in war, but in Lux, when you are killed, you are not killed for good, but return again in subsequent games, and in my opinion, Baden needs to learn a little "long term diplomacy" if he wishes to be respected.
At this point, I fully support Packman's position, as Baden causes much angst in rooms he joins by his particular style of "fair" play, and his arrogant defenses of such, seemingly unaware that this is NOT really war, but an online gaming community in which players develop reputations.
Personally, I don't want to play with Baden any more. I avoid the rooms he's in, and don't want him in my hosts, at least until he seems to grow a bit in understanding the perspective that most of the better players hold.
I know this sounds negative, but I hope it's constructive. |

Now this is what I am talking about!! Yes, bad mod! Baden is an outstanding individual with a stellar record. Yes, abuse of power! My hosting privileges should be revoked and my mod stick taken away because I should not attempt to circumvent an attack that was most assuredly coming. And how dare I give anyone a place to complain about a mod! :O God forbid that I opened a thread that allows any and all to tell me what they think of me. At least this way maybe we'll find out what the community wants exactly. |
