If we are to have a Ladies Night event, we should have a Guys-out event. It wouldn't be fair to show favoritism towards one sex. The thread that Precious made sounds like a Sex and the City episode: a bit vulgar, sexist, and hostile to men--all hidden under a layer of humor. I for one don't understand the need for such an event. What's the justification for it? Can't ladies compete with guys or what? Maybe it's because there are so few ladies that play this game, that it's good to promote their presence here. Maybe they find it fun to only play Lux with their 'sisters'. I would find it fun to only play Lux with my 'brothers'.
Altough this cannot compare, I like to bring up the EU rule (Canada is not yet in the EU) which says that you can't discriminate one sex against another. Since a few years back, it's no longer allowed to offer different prices for the same service (like having a haircut); or grant free entrance to ladies at a night club, while the guys had to pay. That's what equality is about, right? I know this cannot compare, but the argument remains the same.
I, for one, would like to know the reason behind this event. Also, I'd to point out that online, it is somehow difficult to determine the sex of the player. I realize that once Dustin sets his mind on something, he won't change things--regardless of how wrong they may seem, but I felt the urge to speak out. It's the least that I could do. |

| Right. How many games do you play where the 6 ladies of lux are not present? Is this not enough guy time for you? BUt by all means. Gave a thread just for males. Causes no harm. There is a thread for posters with 1000 posts or more. That's pretty exclusive too..... |

I agree that it can be difficult to determine the sex of a player...
∞ drSnuggles wonders if Claudiu is really a guy... or probably eligible to compete with the ladies ∞
∞ drSnuggles also wonders if guys are allowed to watch the ladies' games as this will surely be funny; hopes for some quotes of the week ∞ |

| This is not the first time this event has run in Luxtoberfest. It clearly is in no means a "sexist" event. I do see slightly a few more lady luxers for a change these days which is good but I still would guess the percentage of women to men on Lux is still around 1 Lady to every 10 guys. Male players are definately not rare on Lux and you can get in a game with 6 men anytime thoughout lux year round. This event is more allowing the the women to determine who the best female luxer is in competition. No more no less than just simply that. |

| Addendum: it seems that the author of the Ladies Night thread may define seperate rules that are not part of the forum rules and Lantern is happy to enforce them. Guys that posted in that thread had their posts edited. I wasn't aware that when starting a thread on the Lux public forum, you could exclude the opposite sex from posting there. Perhaps the forum rules should be updated? |

Jesus tapDANCING christ Claudiu! STFU about this. In EUROPE, at WIMBLEDON, do they not have events featuring just women? They have mixed as well, and men's competitions too. I guess that's sexism by your standards?
If you really need an award to see who the best male luxer is, you have the seeds, the weekly medal winners, etc. I would guess Lux is 95% male. The ladies should be allowed to have a compo, and a thread that is free from WUMs (as they say in England, "wind-up merchants"). |

They do, Space, just like in soccer and in most of the other sports, but here's the catch: their argument is that man's physique is superior to that of the woman and as such, they must divide the two sexes. Now, unless we are arguing that men are intellectually superior in strategy and tactics, then there would be no such argument for this. The best analogy would be to compare this to chess, where women compete among themselves and men among themselves. As for why they do that....I won't touch that with a stick.
Either way, in all these competitions, you have full segregation. This is not the case here, so your argument is void. |

Women are pansies who belong in the kitchen and cleaning the house. What do women know of war? Heck, I had to let Hearts and Smashley win a couple of games so they wouldn't cry during the high seeds TOC.

I am going to try and spell this out now.
1.In Lux there is no separation between women's and Men's scores, raw, seed, etc. This is good. As Claudiu has correctly stated, there is no difference between the strategic and tactical abilities of men and women when it comes to playing this game. I would argue against there being a separation of this kind for regular standings.
2. This is NOT what we are talking about when we want to have one days of women against women competition! 2 years ago "Ladies Night" was held in a room set for 4 players. There were not enough female players for a FH 6 rom game. Though the handful of women competed against each other all of the time via general standings I never had the experience of being in a room with more than any one of them at a time.
3. This year I am thinking we COULD keep a 6 player FH going. I look forward to playing in the same room as 5 other women. Setting this ONE DAY A YEAR gives us a time and place to colect and play head to head. This does not belittle us. This does not mean we can't compete with men. This is a socially and competitively unique day of the Lux year for the dozen? 20? or so women among hundreds of men to play in the same room at the same time. I do not see how that is sexist.
4. About FORUM THREADS OF EXCLUSION_
-clown moderation log
-must have vagina
-must have 1000 posts
-must be a Bane Member
this is not a new thing. Create a must be a man to post here thread. It is your choice.
5. FUN! Does anyone remember fun? I seem to have a faint glimmer of memory...
A Big THANK YOU to this years Luxtober event hosts who volunteer their time to try and create a celebration for us.

Claudiu- Ladies Night is about FUN. F-U-N. Fun!
I remember two years ago, we had the same problem. Ladies Night thread come up, and some man comes in waving his penis, “look at me, look at me” : asking what’s the deal with Ladies Night.
http://sillysoft.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12212&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Then last year, Dustin cut it from the schedule, maybe from the few number of participants the year before.... OR maybe it was due to the fact that some people couldn’t come to grips with a Ladies tournament.
So, this year, A bunch of ladies asked for it again. And we got it!! So it just ticks me off, we are getting the same crap again.
The Ladies don’t need their own tournament to show how awesome we are. We can compete right along the boys, and do just fine. IT IS JUST ABOUT FUN!
This tournament was my favorite two years ago, even though Michelle just swooped in and kicked butt. It was the first time I played when it was only ladies. And I sure haven’t been able to experience that since.
So rock on ladies. |

One of the things I've really liked about Luxtoberfest is that it's about the community as much as it's about bragging rights and shiny GIFs. If you think the community would be enhanced by a "Gentleman's Night" then you should host it.
I personally am looking forward to seeing what a 6 human ladies game looks like. Will it be all "Oh, no YOU take S.A., I insist!" Or will it be "YOU BITCH!" Catfighting?
I see enough fh all male games to know how they go. |

Well last time (the fabled 2 years ago) we chatted and joked about mostly un-lux related things while michelle showed up, Killed us all mercilessly, said "good times" and vanished into the ether. All else is a blur......

Maybe its within rules to post a ladies only thread but to say vaginas only?
How about I open a thread saying Penis's only, if you don't have one you may not post here... Woman with penis's in their mouth, Ok to post!
However I have no problem with a ladies night, I think your thread is very sexist, and if you can be sexist then people should be allowed to be racist and all other bad things known to man.

Claudiu, If I recall you were brought off a forum ban not even for a month yet and here you are causing issues over something that should have no concern to you. There are plenty of tournaments throughout Luxtoberfest that you can part take in and your sitting here being objective to a Ladies night tournament? Are you serious? Are women not considered equals in your country??? Im sorry but I think you need to revisit basics here.
Some Tournaments sometimes are just not aimed at everyone to participate plain and simple.
THE TOC for Rookies! You can only be a rookie to play! Is that discriminating Veterans???
TOC of CHAMPIONS SEEDS! You gotta be in the top seeds top play!
Is that discriminating people who are not considered th ebest players???
There our Tournaments that are gonna have requirements, just because a certain requirement is set doesn't mean its sexist or a discriminating situation.
Your like a guy walking in a bar on Ladies Night and demanding to have the same drink specials as the women.
I think it would be best to stop complaining!

| No, Snyper, I'm just raising an issue and I think that this, if anything, goes against equality. I read the thread that Hearts posted and several people made the same good points. Equality doesn't mean favoring one party over another, but offering the same opportunities to all. Since this tourney is open only for ladies--and since the same kind of tournament is not offered for men to participate in--the conclusion is that one party is favored over another:--and that is not equality. |
