A day or so ago, I was playing in rome with a few bots and two humans. One human did everything he could to prevent the other one from winning. He killed him for sixth two games in a row. Then the second game after the other human is already dead, he decides to take half my income and leave me with ten men for the bots. Luckily, the bots didn't kill me and I was able to take some income. Then he took a massive amount of income and left it completely undefended. I took a small part of his income and his next turn he suicides me. Then I killed him and killed the remaining bot off a cash.

I'm pretty sure he was wrong for killing the other human two games in a row first because that's called griefing.

But, was I right in killing him, or should I have left him be and went for bots?

Also, when does the line start for when to follow bots first and when not to? I almost always play bots first, even with one bot, unless someone hits me before the bots are gone in that game.

Bots first depends on two things Owned.
1. The host - If the room description says bots first, that's what should be done.
2. The players - If the players unanimously decide on bots first or not, it should be played that way.

In my opinion, a strictly bots first approach is silly. I've seen many games where a percentage of the people do all that they can to take out the bots first, and then another player cleans up the board. I usually play bots first unless there are one or two bots. I almost always do my best to take reaper out first regardless of how many bots there are because I consider it the biggest asshatting half-killer in Lux.

In this case I would say that you were justified in taking out the human before the bots. Especially after they spared you in that one game. Wink

I'm not saying that I play strictly bots first, I won't serve myself on a platter to another player to kill a bot. Normally I will maybe pop the bots income, but I won't give the bot away or myself away. At the same time though, I won't hit the other player unless they hit me.

Bots first is mindless ... frivolous ... annoying ... and dumb ...

Too many arguments about what should or shouldn't be done in this or that situation ...

Kill or be killed I dare say ... survival of the fittest should rule the day ... !

Cowards afraid of losing RAW to bots should learn to guest out instead ... !

^

I see that you were playing in MikeyG's host which says nothing about bots first. So in that case, unless you reach a consensus with the other players, it's everyone for them self.

"The bots first" rule is is in need of some serious repair. I personally think it needs to be revamped and enforced, or eliminated completely.

The thing about this is....

THERE IS NO BOTS FIRST RULE!

It is simply an etiqutte of lux and nothing more. Never in my time in lux, which has been quite some time now, has a rule ever existed. Sure its been debated since the good days of Vonibot, but hosts make it a privately enforced rule in their rooms only. Its not something that Lux enforces or supports.

This etiquette in IMHO was established in results to prevent raw loss and simply gain. We all know that the AI of Lux clearly plays ten times if not more games than a typical human. Im not saying the bots would dominate the rankings but I do believe most of the advance bots would have higher averages results and rankings every week if the this etiquette wasnt enforced

That was in support of AI...

In support of my human rivals and the bots first etiquette. I follow this majority of the time but I do sway from it when it means its gonna cost me a game. Im certainly not gonna give up a kill with someone who has 5 cards on the brink of death so a bot can steal them. but if the host calls for it ill follow it.
