October 1st - Tournament of Champions for Veterans

Post by dustin » Wed Sep 29, 2010 4:37 pm

Friday October 1st, Tournament of Champions for Veterans

Time: all day long

In order to qualify as a Veteran you must have played an online game of Lux on or before October 1st, 2009. So you must have been around longer then 1 year. If you're not a Rookie you qualify.

This TOC will consist of 1-3 rooms (as needed) with only Veterans playing. You can show up anytime during the day and compete.

Scoring is as follows (for each game):
8 points for 1st place
5 points for 2nd place
4 points for 3rd place
3 points for 4th place
2 points for 5th place
1 point for 6th place

Each person's score will be calculated as (total points / games) + (games * 0.2) with a minimum of 3 games required, and a maximum of 10 games counted. After 10 games you'll stop getting any extra per game.

Only games with 6 humans in it count towards your score.

The Core 4.
Rome.
Classic.
Deux.
Bio Deux..

It would be great to pit the veterans on the core maps for once.
Obscure Maps have their own tourneys dedicated to them...Geometric... Historical... Retrospective.

This is Luxtoberfest.
Be true to your ROOTS.

Dustin, you of all people should be on board with this statement (eh?).

um, no.

Bio is NOT a core map. Duh is not a core map.

The core maps, played more by the old school, the veterans, were as follows.

Classic
Bat Rastard Classic
Classic (as seen by Mike)
Hex
Space Station

Deep roots there.

I offered up cubes 2 and cube wars because they have that hex / space station feel to them, with a good full house. I added the tanks and castle maps because of some amazing games played in past Luxtobers by the old school / veterans on these maps.. ROOTS, yes, not surface roots, and not deep tap roots, but roots just the same..

Stop trying to revise history. :-P

And git off my lawn!

I'm not going to argue semantics... considering Bio's a Map Generator.

The Most Played Maps :

http://sillysoft.net/lux/rankings/maps/
http://sillysoft.net/lux/rankings/maps/alltime.php

Played by many... but not everybody plays them.

I look at those 4 as being pillars (albeit not everyone's cup of tea) : Most played, most debated, and most relevant.
In the interest of going old school... I nominated Classic Part Deux - The number one played map of all time... in favor of Imperium Romanum... a more popular (of late), but relatively new map.

Wanna go Hex or Space Station instead of Deux?... Deux it. Space Station is #20 All time and not even in the last 30 day conversation. While some maps may have been around in the beginning, it's the timeless ones that show longevity and continued interest that make up Lux's BASE Roots.

I say use the main arenas, rotate them, and have the vets who can play the best on these core maps be our champions.

The Top three "maps" for this tourney should be a no brainer.
Recently, Deux has been an afterthought... but all time - it still presides. Maybe some players need to be reminded of why Deux was so influential
The Core 4 is my framework.
I understand that it varies for many.

In this instance, my 4 is not only relevant, but enduring popularity deems it APPROPRIATE.

An early riser VETERANS TOURNAMENT host has gone up. Luxtoberfest has begun!

Games with 6 humans will count for the tournament. Get in some practice games on the first map.

More rooms will go up later during peak hours...

My alias SmotPoker is not allowed to play in the veteran tourny... Does that mean It will work in the Rookie tourny?

All I know is I don't use my other name anymore... So if it's conflicting to the tournaments.. please make SmotPoker my 'main' alias...

Hrm... SmotPoker isn't on the list of allowed rookies....
I don't get it. I guess I don't get to play today or tomorrow.

-----------------

More investigation reveals, I've been using the SmotPoker alias since November 17th 2009

dustin said "In order to qualify as a Veteran you must have played an online game of Lux on or before October 1st, 2009. So you must have been around longer then 1 year. If you're not a Rookie you qualify. "

But no one mentioned, if you start with a new alias you can't play in either tourny.

Why not just use the name "rottenboy" then? I had to revert back to Smashley.

Guys, seriously, one room open, and one game, not even classic.
Pretty poor start to the festivities, I actually cleared my diary for this one.
We've just been watching Darth, 3DA and GFIPS play an HOUR LONG end game.

WTF?

To make matters worse. A Classic game finally opens, I give in and go to username rottenboy so i can at least participate in this years games.

and low and behold

✱ WARNING: You already have a user in the ranking system (SmotPoker). If you play with this new name, you will reset your other player's RAW ✱

I try every week to keep my RAW up to be able to maintain a high seed. I'm not losing my raw for 1 tournament. So I guess I'll play veterans next year.
