Good read. I am a big fan of MMA and love to watch a good BJJ battle. From now on I will try to not refer to it as chess match.

Interesting Article. One of the key things I love about Jiu-Jitsu is a guy weighing in at 160-180 can put a real hurting on a guy in the 200+ range. Not only that it is an art form, not just brute force.

Anyone remember that sport that didn't take off so well, Chess Boxing?!

as much as I enjoy both MMA and chess, I think the article is full of bias and poor analogies.

One could easily say MMA resets each match (when the fighters enter the cage) as opposed to starting in various spots.

Comparing skills in bjj to pieces in chess (ie you could be missing a queen) is faulty as well - I'd compare pieces to body parts - (almost) everyone has 2 arms, two legs, etc - like chess pieces, and what you do with them (the tactics) are what matters in both cases.
