Dustin, can we get the app running on android?
It's a huge marketplace and it would also allow me to finally be able to play on the go.
I'm not the biggest fan of the iphone.
I've jb'ed a few of them for friends.
Personally, i feel that my phone should not require to be hacked in order to be allowed to use it the way you want it to.
Windows mobile is another. I heard MS is doing anything they can to lure developers to create a few apps for them.
They even support having apps cost more than a buck to promote competition.
I'm soon switching to android most likely unless Winmo 7 is worth the hype.
I'm just waiting for that damn htc tegra phone i have in sight to come out.
Again, it would open up more avenues for revenue. |

| I'm keeping an eye on other platforms including Android. However, so far nobody except apple has shown that they can provide an app store that will actually make back the development costs. |

I agree that the Android marketplace needs to be redisgned.
http://www.android.com/market/featured.html
but if you view their app store over a handset it's more refined.
as for win mobile marketplace.
that has been in the works for months and coming out sometime in the next few days.
Windows Marketplace Update - Countdown to Launch - September 30th
Being that this is MS with all the millions invested in this, i'm pretty sure it will be something comparable to the apple store experience.
They are also planning to revamp windows media player into something more similar to itunes. |

We waited until after the iphone app store launch before porting Lux there. Gave a chance to see how it would shake out before wasting a lot of efforts. I'll keep watching the others, but no desire to jump on an early bandwagon that's going to end up failing.

+1 for Lux on Adroid
I've switched to Android. The one and ONLY thing I sorely miss from my iPhone is the Lux app. I even still carry my iPhone on long trips just so I can still play Lux.
Please please please, port to Android!

There's no way that Android will fail. I do think it's smart, however, to wait for the marketplace to settle on a good, stable mechanism for making money. |

Not to "hate" on Apple, but the iphone platform is only where it is because of Apples skill at hype and marketing (note the popularity of the iPad (really?)).
The current trend is moving toward Android in a big way. Most major phone makers have multiple Droid phones and more are coming. As far as the Marketplace goes, I would have to say that it needs to be remodeled. While there is more and more development of Android apps I think that the quality of those apps suffers somewhat. If more quality game makers like Sillysoft got into the Android market it would balance out the equation.
You have to take the chance I say, and develop for Android now. Create a presence sooner rather then later and be known as a defining creative force and innovator in the Android community, rather then wait and be just another trend follower.

| Last I heard, Android still doesn't allow Canadian companies to publish paid apps on their marketplace. There definitely won't be Lux there until that changes. |

I'm hoping for a windows mobile 6.5 version.
From what I've read, any program written in C for the iPhone is relatively easy to convert for the windows marketplace. (then again i could be mistaken)
| Quote: | Porting an iPhone application proved both surprising and not nearly as challenging as had been expected. Once the frameworks and library decisions were finalized, the effort to port code essentially consisted of moving Objective C to C#, both of which are Java-like languages.
The large development community, both within Microsoft and outside, and the various whitepapers, blogs, virtual labs, websites, and other online documentation, offered a wealth of information that provided direction and greatly facilitated problem resolution. The only real challenge was assuring total portability between screens, and that was assured by utilizing the concept of aspect ratios.
Now that Amplitude has been ported, Gripwire has an application that runs on a wide variety of devices that run the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and can reach a larger number of users.
By porting their applications to Windows phones, iPhone developers can potentially increase revenue and connect directly to millions of Windows phone users that are looking for applications for their phones

I'm posting with my Droid X right now. It's huge. All it needs is a Lux app and I can be a "toucher".

hmmmm from what _I've_ heard, you've been a "toucher" for years. And you're likely to go blind from that..... Either that or you'll get hair on your Palm Pre! |

At this point i don't care if it's on android or windows.
My phone now runs both on dual boot.
While Android doesn't have a system for Canadian companies to publish, you could still publish a free demo
(like you did on the iphone) for people in the android market to become familiar with the product for when the actual full app comes out.
Not to mention that even the demo will attract more customers to Sillysoft to try and possibly buy the game.
Also i read that Microsoft is giving a lot of incentives to developers in order to create apps for the windows 7 phone.
Either way Lux deserves to be on more phones than just the iphone. |

|
|
I'm going to throw in a request to expand lux beyond the iphone.
Since, I'm a financial analyst I thought I would try and put a few numbers behind my plea to justify why this could potentially be a good move for sillysoft. Android and RIM are the ones I will focus on since we have more data than the new windows 7 platorm.
The 2010 August report from Gartner Reseach states that Android phones now outnumber Iphone's sales by a sizeable margin. They have done this in a relatively short amount of time. RIM is also in front of Apple phone sales.
At present, the only way to access lux outside of a computer is on the iphone or ipod touch. A main way to access the customer has been through the combination of iphone and ipods touches. The same software was available to a new market with no development cost. I came in contact with Lux through my Ipod. So this is more about accessing the the most customers with limiting the amount of development costs. Assuming that there are 40 million ipod touches plus 33 million iphones gives Lux the ability to connect with at least 73 million different mobile units.
However, the growth of the smart phone market has been amazing. Between RIM and Android they have over 20 million sales in the last quarter. Android has only been around a short time yet they are reporting 160,000 new users a day or 4 million a month. This trend is expected to continue for the rest of the year. Android could have upwards of 20 million new customers by year end. If apple has been good to you with their numbers I'm sure Google's Android will be plenty rewarding into the future. Especially since they are not tied to any one phone provider.
My point being that Android, and potentially RIM, could be great places to expand into. I have no knowledge of Lux sales but I can verify by the notes on this thread you have plenty of loyal customers that will be happy with the development. Not only that, but you could beat the competition to the fastest growing audience.
Please expand Lux! Thanks! |

I looked into the problem with Canadian developers on Android briefly. Here are the two best posts I found on other boards to get Android to accept Canadian developers and other foreign developers.
Also,
If you want Lux to have the ability to expand to Android you might try one of the two. I'm not sure if there is a better avenue to take. I just can't believe Google would exclude foreign developers. How do you expect to compete on a global scale Google/Android? |

I also miss my app after switching iPhone to Droid X. I will keep looking for a" Risk" emulator, and whoever posts one first will get me. Now, I am already your happy loyal customer... are you really going to lose me because you are slow to market? Don't you realize that once I purchase an app, I will never check back again to see if you eventually publish for android?
