In professional tennis and golf, there are 4 'majors.' These are four very competitive events with the most talented players in the field, and the most competitors.
In tennis, for example, there is the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open. To win all four of these in your career is referred to as completing a "Career Grand Slam." To win all four in the same year is simply referred to as a "Grand Slam" and is among the rarest feats in sports.
So, I ask you, if Lux had a "Grand Slam," which four events/achievements would you consider to be the most prestigious? |

| probably first seed is top of my list. I assume we aren't counting forum games on this though. You can only get ROY once, so that's up there. if there is a forum, the hall of fame award is there. yup. that's all I got. someone add more please. |

ROTY is more of a name-recognition thing rather than talent, as much as I hate to admit it :/, so I agree with Capi there.
Maybe 1st overall seed, a weekly 1st medal, a weekly 1st for WTA, and maybe overall #1 long-term seed? |

1st seed, several weekly wins, Survivor win, Castle win.
Hall of Fames are usually seperate from actual career stats/achievements. |

Agreed...
...If you were tracking weekly medals based on the map that you were chasing on.
I'd be partial to Deux as our version of the Australian open.

If Marauder's idea was floated a long time ago, i would prolly say that an award for each of the popular maps would be an ideal Grand Slam. (Classic, Part deux, Bio, Rome).....i think Survivor and Castle maps and so forth are really good awards to win, however, they are also only available to a certain "selection" of people ie. Castles only has 6 teams with 6 players on each (only 36 participants).....if you look at Golf, or Tennis, there are always certain "wild cards" who go through a qualifying process and actually make a good shot at winning the whole damn thing, so certain "select" tourneys, i am going to leave out of my Grand Slam...in saying this, i would go for;
Weekly 1st Gold
Short-Term Seed
WTA
MOTW Gold Monkey
Personally, im prolly not completely satisfied with this as a grand slam, but in the conditions that we currently play under, i would go for this. Long-term 1st seed is the 1 here that i thought should be included, but then others would argue that WTA monthly should be included too.

Actually I think the Golden Monkey is what I would like to have most. Other than fun forum awards, that is.
Oh, thats right, you were talking about Lux Gameplay. MONKEY MONKEY MONKEY. |

Yes Rhye, i would consider these 4 maps to be the 4 different "events" of a Grand Slam.........I guess if Marauder's idea was floated, then this would be the "Grand Slam" that Capi is alluding to.........a Gold in each of these 4 categories would indeed make for a grand slam.....
however, in the current environment, of course, this is only fantasy, until something is/could be implemented. |

For a long time I was very interested in winning what I thought was a Grand Slam of sorts: getting a weekly gold and a gold MOTW monkey in the same week. This was before the raw bonus skewed the MOTW wins drastically, however; once the chase became ON the MOTW MAP, it was less of an achievement.
Nowadays ... it's hard to say. Certainly a few weekly golds, a few gold monkeys are a good start. But I think what completes that Grand Slam picture is a brace of solid wins during Luxtoberfest. Bring home a couple of those special golds, beating people at their favorite maps, when they're bringing their A-games - that's something to hang your hat on.
Good thread! Very fun. |

Fun idea!
Our version of the grand-slam doesn't have to be limited to just 4 awards tho. Gathering the list of things people have mentioned, I put forward these 6 awards as the components of a Lux-slam:
• Weekly 1st medal
• Weekly 1st WTA
• Top seed
• Top long-term seed
• MOTW gold monkey
• Luxtoberfest gold medal
It would be nice to also have specific Classic, Bio, and Rome sections, but we don't have a clear award for these.
So I'm curious: how many players have achieved all 6 of the awards listed?? |

Yeah, dustin! I think you did a quite nice sum up. Maybe Castle should also be add (as it is some kind of team game it might be the Wimbledon double).
It would be interesting to know which players got them all (-> candidates for the Hall of Fame vote then!)

Just a (newbe) question: where can i see the best long-term seed a player ever got? The regular top seed ist displayed in his profile, but is the long term also visible somewhere? (if not it would be nice to add this to the profiles, especially as you can use it in Luxtoberfest All Time High Seed Tourney)

Thank you Mazza but i meant somethinh like a "long term high of xx" info for each player like i can see for the normal seeds. Sure i can click through all the weeks to find out, but i would prefer a much easier way by clicking on a players profile (wouldnt that also be an interesting information? / btw - interesting link!)
So to take up the original idea. I would like to see the following infos added to the player's profile:
Highest seed ever (already displayed, but maybe also added year when achieved)
Hightes Long term seed ever (i think missing yet)
and maybe lowest seed points ever (e.g. Para 1.0 - i just assume, but dont know)
And if someone finishes all the titles dustin suggested, he should get an extra star

Despite being tied with magpie for the 3rd lowest LT seed weight ever ... I have never held the first longterm seed. GK had that locked up for quite some time.
Edit: 68 weeks to be exact

wow, you mean i have achieved something that Dominator hasnt??
I had the LT number 1 for 42 weeks, from 2009-10, having a great battle with 3DA and Dollabillz for most of that time, but could only get my weight down to 10.7....., i think the lack of chasing really screwed my chances of gettin it into single figures...... but like that saying goes, "There is no point cryin over spilt milk" |

Hi Engie
LOL:
/me offers you a change:
1. a MOTW-Monkey vs a weekly raw win
2. a weekly LT #1 seeds against a WTA weekly win
But serious:
Are there any players out there who won all 6th categories already? |

Congrats Para and 3DA!!!
I also want to mention, that 3DA also got several sportsmen Trophies during Luxtoberfest, which makes him to one of my personal next Hall-of-Fame Candidates!

Hey Para. You can delete all of Mazzas others forum posts - but please let him publish these stats. I am sure it will be interesting for all of us (like all statistics you publish)! But maybe instead of the forums, this would be better posted in the Wiki-Part "Book of records"? I think some recent statistics would be great there!
i saw someone working on the statistics already:

OK Gfips, he aint given me permission, but hey, im not that afraid of the "Beast of Minnesota".....the worst he can do is delete this, which means that you are prolly not reading this anyway....so, no harm done, as they say "nothing ventured, nothing gained"
(and of couse, like any good assignment, i am going to state here and now that all of the information below is not the work of yours truly, but of Paranoiarodeo himself, or the "Sultan of Statistics", as i now like to refer to him as.)
In the whole time of lux rankings........there have only been 16 people who have been privelaged enough to hold the LT seed........furthermore, only 31 peeps have been able to hold the Short-term number 1 seed......UNBELIEVABLE, you say, which is exactly what i thought.....but here we go;

Thanks Para, Thanks Mazza. Great Statistics. I think it s worth to be in the wiki and added it:
http://sillysoft.net/wiki/?HighSeeds
(/me makes it more effort for Para to delete ...)
Would be nice, if someone could keep it up to date from time to time
Maybe you should also mention that Para/Ignominious are one and the same player! Else someone might believe, ozzies can't count
