A player chosing such a name should simply not be admitted. More: Should be banned immediately.

I just noticed that Para acted quickly and well after I wrote the above sentence.

Moral of the story: Don't buy a new registration, so you can keep playing while suspended. If you do, then you're just pissing away your money. Furthermore, threatening to call the FBI, so you can demand a consumer fraud investigation, won't save you. They don't care, and we don't care. Truth be told, as long as you aren't a troll or asshat, then the Lux community will embrace you with open arms. We'll even offer you assorted snacks and adult beverages, if you wish. However, the moment you begin bashing your head against your keyboard, spewing ignorant bullshit that no one wants to hear, and ignoring all polite warnings to calm down, maybe just play the silly game, then yes, you're gonna be escorted off these virtual premises. Our rules really aren't that complicated. M'kay? Thanks.

My moral: Don't sell any registration to aggressive fools chosing such a player name. It is pretty clear that these people are not social at all from start.

Some examples:

Obama Bin Laden
Bin Laden 2008
Osama bin laden
BIN LADEN

Mr. Hitler
Hitler 2.0 -
LITTLE HITLER -
AdolfHitler -
hitler -
Adolf-HITLER -
lil hitler -
Hitler-Herman

And now "WaffenSS"?

The ip is checked if someone buys a new registration? That was not my point.

Lux should respect the "moral" impact of players names some fools chose.

Names like those I quoted (there are many more) must hurt the feeling of any person who hates violence and racism.

May I quote the Lux-Rules:

"Any 'hate speech' which attacks or insults a group of people based on their skin color, race, religion, sex, nationality, or sexual orientation is strictly prohibited. It doesn't matter if you are "joking", this will get you banned. "

I consider the choice of a name like "WaffenSS" as an insult.

Eventually a minor who doesn't know about history thinks he is "joking". But after a few minutes in the chat with this guy it was obvious for all who witnessed that it was not a joke.

As "kude" said: "He claimed that if his name didn't offend people, then it hasn't done it's job..."

Maybe we should forbid all WWII based maps from Lux too?

Or anyone who wants to play them? Or host them?

(A person's behavior determines his character, not his name.)

If I were "kude" I would take that as an insult.

Think twice before you post such a nonsense.

Ya know... there was a point and time when most all the players here were very cordial amongst one another. Yes, there was a bad apple here and there as is always the situation, but in the end the good players always ousted them and all went back to normal. Fast forward a few years...

The attitude in the above quote... that is why we have problems in Luxtopia now. When individual players that think they are the only one who matters rule the board, nobody is gonna have any fun anymore.

I actually agree with Baden 100% on this one......he is totally correct, especially when quoting the lux rules stated above.......

i know there are other cases, but in the case of this name, i think the World has gone a long way since the end of the 2nd WW, especially in tolerance towards differing nationalities, races, culture and religion........we are such a multi-cultural society these days, what with the large numbers of peeps migrating from their homelands to other countries, and tolerance towards others and their beliefs, whilst still prolly in its infancy, will, or should, only grow with time...... It has been nearly 70 years since the holocaust, and I believe that all parties involved, namely Germans, Jews, Russians, Gypsies, and so forth, all really only want to get on with their lives in the present. sure, it is only noraml to remeber the past, the mistakes made, the hurt displayed, yet I believe that these races do NOT need to be reminded of the atrocities that their forefathers were either responsible for, or were on the receiving end of. We are reminded of them by the statistics, the death camps which still bear the marks of what occured, the anniversary days etc I am sure that Baden does not need reminding everyday of what has occured in the past, and does not deserve to be ridiculed for the mistakes of his countrymen in such a manner. I am sure that players from a Jewish background, namely Meron, Lux Llama, Nooless, do not need to be "offended" by such names; their history is littered with examples of horrific acts against their people, i do not think they deserve to be constantly "tortured" by such an idiot who thinks it is "just" to go around with this offensive name.

sure, many will say a name is only a name, but the implications of these "names" on the wider community must be recognised, especially when they are so offensive, or, recognise such a horrific event in the history of the World, which really, no oone need reminding of.......

After all guys, Dollabillz was not allowed to have "mod griefer" as an alias........ the difference between this name and the above name which only brings out negative emotions to so many in our wonderful community, does not even compare..........

I think there should be a happy medium between endorsing and banning people for potentially offensive nicknames or winning messages. I think that a mod request for a change might be in order if someone does express offense, but there is a lot of gray area in the purview of "someone being offended." We all have our national pride and political and social value systems, and what is appropriate talk for adults might not be for minors. So I think this should be handled on a case-by-case basis, as the mods generally regulate the chat and the gameplay. I have had people take offense at my name, and it only coincidentally happens to have a slur in it (my name is short for Millionaire Tycoon).
I don't take offense at words very often (unless they are spoken in a disrespectful or intentionally disparaging way). I think if someone wants to have a Nazi-related screen name, I don't condone that person, and I might asshat him/her whenever possible. But I don't think it warrants a categorical ban.

You got me wrong. I plead for banning such names not the player. The name is a message.

I want to have fun in a game. It is all but fun to play in a room if names like "Bin Laden", "Hitler" or "Stalin" are used. Such names evoke sad remembrances.

My ancestors (grandfather maternal and grandmother paternal) were arrested by the Gestapo imprisioned for years and survived the 3. Reich only by luck.

Thus I react allergically. I hope you understand that.

I was angered at the "Hitler" alies. He was acting like a fool in a game and I muted him quickly.

Out of respect for the memory of those who suffered in the cruel and terrible deathcamps of the Nazies, I believe using those offensive names should be outlawed in Lux. It is the least we can do.....

Another 2 cents.

Ultimately, who decides which historical names are verboten? Should we exclude all emperors and generals from antiquity who conquered millions? Or European explorers from the Age of Discovery that stumbled upon the "new" world while spreading disease and slavery? Or more recent European rulers such as George III, Napoleon, Mussolini, etc.? Nevermind any Soviets such as Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, etc., or their Eastern European puppets during the Cold War. I guess American generals and presidents should be banned too, especially those involved in the westward expansion of the country during the 1800s, or maybe the Vietnam War, or recent Middle Eastern conflicts. We couldn't possibly overlook Civil War generals, both Union and Confederate. Expunge Lincoln and Booth from Lux mythology? Oh well. If we wanna be truly multicultural, we oughta prohibit Japanese and Chinese rulers, both ancient and modern. Genghis Khan, duh. Various Ottomans, Persians, Arabs, sub-Saharan Africans, etc. Oh, Indians and Pakistanis too. Any Israeli or Palestinian names of significance must be forbidden. South and Central American revolutionaries of all stripes and political persuasions. Furthermore, I know Irish cop families in Chicago that would be pissed off by any mention of Al Capone, so we're gonna need to include gangsters, mob families, drug cartels, etc. Hmm. I dunno. I have this horrible feeling that I've neglected to mention somebody. Geez. Maybe I should start a list of names in the wiki for anyone and everyone to decide which specific names offend them?

(Do not be afraid of history. Never forget.)

Why the lengthy post? You might just have said: "Lincoln" or "Hitler" - I see no difference.

maybe the six million that Hitler massacred? Or the 60 million that died in total? Hitler or Lincoln, who should be the judge?

heh, I'm Hungarian. I'm not Jewish. It does not matter which side you were on. Baden's German, for God's sake! Even the Nazis know that they killed millions. But as long as there is no judge as to user names, how far can a racist, slavery user name carry me, hypothetically?

I understand Paras argument. He wants to avoid a kind of ranking of evil. And partly I agree.

For those who are able to understand German here some interesting details about Mussolini:

Korrekt zitiert:

Vgl: Gunnar Decker, "Gottfried Benn - Genie und Barbar", 1. Auflage 2006, Aufbau-Verlag Berlin. Seite 270 f.

He denied at that time (1932) any kind of antisemitism in Italy and even posed as a friend of the jews. Ten years later he did not remember this statement.

But a simple question, Para: Would you be so liberal to allow your son (if you had one) to disguise as "Hitler" in a game?

IMHO, anyone who is crass enough to use a nickname with the intent of offending people is going to screw up, and do something else stupid in a very short time and be tossed to the curb anyways.

Pssst, Kude... I wasn't referring to the nickname Hitler alone, I was talking about any of the endless possibilities. The names Andrew Jackson, General Jackson, and Old Hickory disgust me personally...
