1. Is that a winning message or Chat because anyone can program what the bots say in chat. I have never seen that as a winning message as far as I can remember.. |
Its not a winning message but that doesn't matter i think, if you can't use it as a winning message u can't use it in the chat all the time. This is the standard chat, programmed by maybe dustin or the sillysoft team at the start when that bot came out. Very rude! Every now and again it still tells me to suck a giant monkey cock. Which its not very pleasant.
A simmelair case like this happened before like 2 years ago and i also gave this example of the monkey. Lantern said he would look into it but i know he can't change it on his own.
Just wanted to say that of course everybody should mind their language but apparently that bot programmed by sillysoft doesn't have to. If a player says that a few times or have a winning message with go suck a giant monkey cock he will be warned for it. But to report a bot? how stupid sounds that. Or letting 12 year old kids reading that all the time. If your interested i'll have a look again which bot that is. |

1. It looks like it's something we would have to have Dustin change.
2. The big thing with me with winning messages is that you can't mute them/make them go away short of making sure that player doesn't win. Players you can at least mute so you don't have to read their chat.
3. Considering I haven't seen a game with nefarious in it in quite a while and therefore forgot about the message (and you thought it was a winning message so obviously you weren't sure yourself) I think it's a little over the top to be calling it a double standard. But please feel free to keep slinging mud before I at least can attempt to get it changed. Carry on.

Your bias towards my opinions simply because they're coming from me is unprofessional, and has no place in this discussion.

It was "sexually explicit." That's what the moderation log told me.

1. The message had nothing to do with profanity.
2. I was offended by it. And talking to the other moderators, some of them were as well. I just happened to be the most offended I guess. And in my opinion, it broke one of the online rules. |
1. Is sexually-explicit content not included in your definition of the profane?
2. Why put yourself in a position to judge content in the first place if you're so easily offended? I'm sure you can see how that could cause problems.

Because Dustin asked him to, because Dustin trusts Nimmy and the rest of the squad to uphold the standards he wants. If you have any issues with a mod, first pm that mod directly and if you still haven't received satisfaction, pm Dustin with your complaint, because taking pot shots at the mods here accomplishes nothing but upsetting he volunteers who try to keep Luxtopia running smoothly.
And for our hard-working mods: take this-you've earned it!

"...because Dustin trusts Nimmy and the rest of the squad to uphold the standards he wants" is the part that I focused on. It was a fine answer. But the rest of it suggests that I have enough of a problem with nimmy to want to report him, which I do not. I ask only to learn. |

and frankly, if there's still a problem with nefarious, the person to address your concerns is to Dustin, as there probably isn't anything the Mods can do about a bot.

A win message is certainly something I don't care much about as long as it does not hurt someone.
I don't understand the lenghty discussion. Just stay friendly or use irony.
I ignore the pubertal attitude of some fools using bawdy talk.
But certainly we have some minors here. So the mods have to do their duty.
But sometimes I have the impression that some of the minors have the worst vocabulary. |

NWA, Milty, i am going to try and explain this from my point of view, i know my fellow mods have tried, and i dunno if i can make a different take on it all, but here goes; i do not hold my position of moderator lightly...i do not get off on any of the "power" aspects of it, i merely see it as a responsibility thing.....i was asked to do a job, and feel responsible for doing it to the best of my ability. Part of this responsibility is to try and follow my lifelong morals, judgements and opinions because at the end of the day, cyber-space and online stuff still counts as real-life stuff, this is no magical place where we can do things without accountability. For example, i do NOT have a twitter or facebook account, mainly for the reason that i am afraid i am going to say something, make a rash statement, where peeps r gonna get offended, or worse. 1 of Australia's best Swimmers, Stephanie Rice, was very happy when her rugby team beat another a yr or 2 ago. she went on to her Twitter account, and remarked something to the like of; "Take that you faggots, we really beat the hell out of you". Now, u do not have to be a rocket scientist to see what happened next. Gay Right groups were up in arms over this comment and were baying for her blood to the point where she has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars of sponsorship simply because of this "remark" which was only initially posted to her friends......i bet she wished she did not have a Twitter account now. I personally thought the winning message was funny......it actually described one of my favourite pastimes to be perfectly frank with you, however, i was one of the 1st mods to agree that this message was inappropriate. You cannot say things like that when you are going to put a person's name at the end of it. Do any of you know that this comment can easily be classified as sexual harassment or sexual abuse? Are there not severe implcations for peeps who sexually harass people in the workforce, or in general public? What would you say if someone stopped you in the street and told you that they wanted to put their.....in your ....? i mean, we can all laugh about it, but, when there are potential ramifications for not only you, but Dustin, how can we in all our good conscious of being responsible moderators, not at least ask him to delete such a message? i personaly have some winning messages who could be considered borderline, but never actually mention names, do not give anyone any ammunition to be grossly offeneded in a personal way. Sure, maybe banning him is a little harsh, it may not be the way to go about it, as precendence may be caused by this, but......anyone with half a brain should understand that silly comments made online CAN be interpreted in the same way as a meeting between 2 perople sitting face to face. Social media , cyberspace may be a great thing, but it also has such ramifications that i fear for my daughter and being raised in such an environment. people cannot fart without being smelt in another country, you cannot be a celebrity and blow your snotty nose in public, you cannot simply get drunk and start making silly, rash, extremely funny yet totally inappropriate statements, as it could come to bite you in the ass. We really have to be so careful with what we say in these types of forums as once it is written, it can be read by thousands before you actually comprehend what you have written........ If you think it is bad, harsh of nimmy to ban oven for this, please at least consider these things first. Please consider that if moderators take the time to single you out with something, perhaps they have spent an hour of their precious time thinking about your situation and that it was not an itchy triggerfinger move. Perhaps you could at least engage the moderator, discuss the matter openly and honestly, and try to come up with some sort of comprimise. you know Oven, if you had replaced the woman's name, with something like "Chicky-babes", i would not have actually thought it was that inappropriate. Maybe we could have come to this comprimise instead of ignoring Nimmy, and almost "taunting" him into a ban. Thank you
Also, i find myself agreeing with what Baden has written above.....word for word....Bravo Baden!!

You have to be 18 years of age to have a credit card, right?
You have to have a credit card (or at least a bank account which also requires 18 years of age or a responsible co-signer) to buy this game, and, for that manner, you have to be 18 years of age to sign the contract to give you access to high speed internet, which is also required to play this game online.
Assuming this is all true, you guys and gals need to stop acting like 9 year olds and get over it. And, as a father of 3, I suggest that if you are under 18 and this game is so full of vulgar messages that you, or your parents, feel it necessary to publicly voice your concerns, please choose another form of entertainment such as the Muppets or Alf.
If you are a parent who is offended because of what you see on the screen when your kid is playing a game, ehm, be a parent and take it away from them?!?!
I am not advocating anarchy or anything goes.... But grow the.....nevermind. |

I do not remember saying I would look into it. The link that was provided regarding the topic was before I was a moderator.
I also looked back through all my posts in the mod lounge and did not see any topic that I started about it.
It is possible that I pm'd dustin but this is not even a blip on my memory. PJB is the only one that said I was going to look into it.
My apologies if you asked me about it years ago and I forgot or didn't act, but if I told you I was going to look into it, I can't imagine I wouldn't. |

So, in your opinion, taking away the right/privilege of playing on the LuxTracker is preferable to exposing "some people" to adult language? No matter what you do, people are always going to be exposed to some amount of that sort of thing. I don't think it's rightfully punishable when the consequences so greatly outweigh the offenses in question. It's not like these people are trying to make a Catholic pay for their contraceptives.
Edit: That's just an analogy. I'm not trying to segway into a different issue.
Mazza: I appreciate you taking the time to explain your methods. I don't think for a second that either you or nim gets off on the power of being a mod; I just think that that power has expanded too much. Did the subject of this winning message complain on her own? Maybe with a little more info I'd have an easier time agreeing with you on this (not that you owe me an explanation, but I might as well ask).

NWA: All you're doing here is Trolling. If you really feel that "power has expanded too much" the right person to address is Dustin, because he's the only one who will change anything.
The majority of the time spent by our volunteers, is to search the forums deleting spam, and trying to keep order in the rooms. A lot of the time, the offenders are often rude and obnoxious to our Mods. Never do people acknowledge the day-in-day-out hard work they do trying to keep this place relatively Snert*-Free.
Unless you have evidence that a Mod abused his/her powers, it is unfair to ask them to justify every action they made; especially when you are/were not involved in that situation.
The past few months have seen more than their share of threads accusing the Mods of abuse, can we end this now?
* Snert is the term we used back in the AOL days, to refer to trolls and other PITA's. I'm pretty sure we thought it an acronym for "Sexually Narcissistic Egregiously Recidivist Troll" and may in fact be a/the source for where 'troll' came into the net |

I'm not asking a mod or dustin to change anything. I'm just curious about Shock's opinion. It's a subject that interests me, so what's the problem with inquiring further? Trolling has no purpose and barely exists in my vocabulary.

I specifically added in my response to Mazza that he owes me no explanation. It would certainly be unfair of me to think he needs to answer to me; we're in total agreement here.
