Who do you think is going to win?
Spain, Germany en the Netherlands are favorite. France is pretty strong this year.
Of course im voting for the Netherlands and second Germany. |

YEAH`!
We have some really strong strikers: Huntelaar top scorer this year of the Bundesliga(Germany), Van Persie top scorer of the Premier League(England) and of course Robben, Sneijder and Afellay(FC Barcalona). A super strong front.
Only our defense is not that great. |

ima dreaming if i think the Italians can get anywhere past the 1st round, what with their inability to play decent football at the moment, and the fact that Italian Football is in disarray due to MORE cases of match-fixing at the moment......However, the most recent time that Italian Football was in disarray was in 2006, and , lol, we won the World Cup that year.....
Obviously, Spain would be the favourites, being the reigning champion, plus being the current World Cup holders....however, with key players such as Villa and Puyol sidelined through the whole tournament, there may be room for such an orgaznised team, such as Germany, to pull it off. Netherlands, for all their beautiful football, seem always "choke" at the major tournies, even though they always qualify so easily.
If i had to pick a "dark-horse" to win it, i would go for Russia. The Euro's always seem to cause more upsets than what you would appear certainties, so with that in mind, Russia may be that team this yr.
Mazza's tip; Spain. |

True Russia is doing good they beat Italy 3 - 0 this june 1. Now they are playing the first official match against the Czech_Republic and they are 2- 0 ahead. Still 1 half to go but most likely they will win the game.

What bothers me. I have to attend a birthday party while Germany plays vs. Portugal.
Of course I think that Germany has a good chance vs. Portugal. Two top scorers (Klose and Gomez) and only one of them will play. The Netherlands have the same problem (van Persie and Huntelaar).
The defense seems to be rather the critical point of the German team. But a brillant keeper (Neuer). He may be decisive.
Good luck to you all.
Never underestimate England.

only 2 days into the tournament, and i would already say....i am sorry PJ, but my comments about the Netherlands seem to already becoming true......losing to Denmark will make it VERY difficult to progress to the final 8....and i would also say my comment about Russia is enhanced by thumping the Czech's 4-1
And, yeah, with Italian parents and 4 Italian grandparents, you would be correct in sayin that i am an Italian-Aussie...and yes, the "Stallion" comment is also true....not that i have said it, but my wifey calls me it every night (or every 2nd night.......) |

| may have been slightly premature about Italy....they played very well against Spain, were organised playing a totally different formation (3-5-2) than i have ever seen Italy play, and were very competitive. A good match to watch |

The Dutch team has to score vs. Germany today. That will be a thriller. |

Worst performance ever in the history of the Dutch team.
I still think Germany is going to win. Spain is good but is going to run out of luck sometime. |

i was right bout Netherlands........prolly wrong about Russia, but how they did not score against the Greeks is quite beyond me, a draw there, and i think they would have given Germany a real contest. As it is, Germany have the luxury of playing prolly the 2nd worst team at the whole tourney, bar the irish, and a semi-final game against prolly Portugal, who should hold off the Czechs. Meanwhile, i pity the 4 teams on the other side of the draw, as each and every one of them could possibly win the whole thing. Italy vs England is as mouth-watering as France vs Spain, and whoever wins these games, is assured of an even tougher semi-final game.
So, yeah, Germany will play off in the final, however, the winner will most likely come from the other side of the draw. To make the final from this half of the draw will require 2 very tough games, which should hold this team in good shape for germany in the final.......
Mazza starts dreaming that Italy can somehow defy the odds....... |

You mean you were right about this? "always choke"?
Cause for a small country we dont always choke, we seem to get far in a lots major tourneys not every country can say the same.
1974 Final (2nd) WC
1976 Semi Final (3rd) EC
1978 Final (2nd) WC
1980 1st round EC
1982 not qualified WC
1984 not qualified EC
1986 not qualified WC
1988 WINNER (1st) EC
1990 1st round WC
1992 Semi Final (3rd) EC
1994 Quarter-Final WC
1996 Quarter Final EC
1998 Semi Final WC
2000 Semi Final (3rd) EC
2002 not qualified WC
2004 Semi Final EC
2006 1st round WC
2008 Quarter-Final EC
2010 Final (2nd) WC
2012 1st round EC
But, Yes indeed they did sucked big time. I heard there were lots of fights and ego trips between players and the coach this year.
Although im not a German footbal fan i still think they will win and if not Spain of course. |

when i say "choke" PJ, my meaning is NOT that you guys r not a fantastic footballing nation, with some of the best players EVER coming from your tiny nation, eg. Cruyff, Van Basten, Guillit, Rijkard, Davids, Robben ,only to name but a few, but my meaning is that in 1974 AND 1978, you guys were the standout team of the tournament and still managed to lose both finals, a bit like the Hungary team of 1954, which beat Germany something like 8-3 in the group stages, yet lost the final 3-2 to the same Country, this is my meaning of choke. I wasa cheering for the Netherlands in 1990, and was also dismayed that a side which had Ruud Guillit, Van Basten and Rijkard could not get out of the group stages of a World Cup, sure i think Germany was in their group, but so was Egypt, and some other average nation. like this year, The Netherlands i believe were unbeaten in the qualifying games for the Euros, won every game, perhaps, and came into the Tournament as one of the genuine favourtites, yet you managed to lose all 3 games in your group. Would you not describe this as a choke? i dunno ,may be an Aussie term.
i did not mean it as a term of disrespect, i actually always cheer for the Orange if italy is not playing them, or Australia, of course, and am disappointed that a team which normally plays such beautiful football could not make it to at least the quarter Finals..... |

I know you don't mean disrespect.
Yes we chocked this time but i was referring to what you said first "always choke at major tourneys." Thats why i posted the sats
At least next time i wont have any expectations which is much better as you look at the countries that reached the quarters finals.
Italy might become the biggest surprise. |

well, well, well.......England never deserved to win that match, and am so happy the Italians held their nerve to win on penalties......even though it should never have got to penalties...italy with over 30 shots on goal compared to englands's 5.........Italy completed over 850 passes, yet England could not even complete 350!! Like 1 commentator said; "It was the biggest 0-0 thrashing in Footballing history and the most 1-sided 0-0 game ever"
mazza is so happy that the Italians have managed to make the semi's, considering no one gave em a change pre-tournament....and now...anything can happen
Italy and Germany now meet in a semi-final, which will be an epic, i am sure.....and even though Germany will start as raging favourites, here is a piece of interesting history;
Italy and Germany have met on 7 occasions during either the World Cup or European championships, and Germany has never been able to beat the Italians on ANY of those 7 occasions
let us hope that history repeats itself........ |

Germany will take it all!
The Dutch were done in by that over-rated, ball hog Robben. Just about every defender in the world knows how to stop him now, yet he keeps trying the same move instead of passing the freakin ball. |

How exciting!
Wayne Rooney said "good for the team, learned a lot, hold our heads up high"
Wayne Rooney looked like he was thinking "bollocks. It there a back way out of here.?"
I pick spain and Italy for the the finals. Spain for the win.
Llamas are notoriously bad at predicting events though. LLamas also Llove Football because we are good at kicking. We DO get our share of yellow cards though... |

The match Germany - Italy will be a thriller (I hope).
I guess "Klose" not "Gomez" will be 1st choice as goalgetter.
Not easy to predict anything. Spain was disappointing today. A lucky win however.
As usual the daily performance and the experience of the top players are of great importance.
"Klose" knows the Italian league. "Özil" and "Khedira" are top players in Spain.
It will be fun to watch. Independent from the result accept a defeat fairly and stay humble after a win. Like in a Lux-Game! |

i am literally dumbfounded why Ronaldo would not take a penalty........ unless i missed him taking 1 of the 1st 4.......historically, the 4th penalty is always the 1 where something happens, it happened that england missed on their 4th attempt against Italy, and the lad fromportugal goes and misses on the 4th, and to try and preserve him for taking the 5th, well, that is just ludicrious in my opinion, as you have the World's most expensive player (or 2nd) not even havin an attempt where it matters most.
Also, yes, i know i predicted Spain, but i believe Portugal outplayed Spain for the 90mins, and Ronaldo;s missed attempt on the 90th minute proved to be critical, especially when a player who could score 69 goals in a season could not even hit the target from 10 yards out.......
Hoping to see some goals as well as an Italian victory in the semi;s, think it will be the best match of the tournament to be frank, as the Germans always try to play attractive, or at least attacking Football, and this is the most 'adventurous" i have seen an Italian side i have seen in all of my life, what playing with only 3 defenders, and actually playing with 2 strikers........the Finals are always dull affairs, and with counties such as England and greece doing nothing but defend, it has been a rather low scoring tourney, bar the Germans........ |

Penalties are not taken by those whose fame is bigger or those whose salary is higher. They are taken by people who can shoot.
There is a reason Ronaldo rarely ever takes penalty shots.
If you are looking for a skillful athlete, he's your guy. if you are looking for a penalty taker, look elsewhere.
Regardless, Spain deserved to win that one.
As for today.
