More than 6 players

Hey,

I was thinking about other maps, and I was wondering what if there was a host setting to allow more than 6 players. I know risk has a max of 6 players so some might consider this heresy, but if you can have less than 6 players why not more than 6....

How about a host command of:

/max-players 7 .. /max-players 12 ... or higher

and combined with a no bots setting

/no-bots-from 4 .. /no-bots-from 6 or whatever

This setting would suck on smaller maps, but maybe it would be fun on some of the larger maps, Rome, motm etc. And yes it would mean longer games, but on the right map it could be pretty cool.

What do you think?

It's theoretically possible. Would require an update of Lux.

I've shied away from it up till now, since I think it would make games slower in general.

I think games involving more than six players would work better under the Lux Alliance flag.

As for the /no-bots-from... I think this would be a great addition to host commands. Like how castles had only human games, this could be used on permanent hosts. So that if there are only 3 humans the game would add bots, but once a 4th came along the bots would be dropped. This can be done currently to fill bots up to the 4th player, but h0b0's suggestion would have bots fill up to a full house.

yeah,

imagine a game of 12 players, with 10 turtles... or 10 MIA players... marathon will take another perspective....

Yep, one of the design goals of Lux Alliance was to enable games with many players, that run the same speed, since everyone takes their turn at the same time.

Oh dear lord please give us the ability to set no bots so a fh is 3 or 4 players if we want. that would be a game changer and a climate changer too

There is a Risk board with 8 players and metal figurines. You can also always play 'double-risk'.

This behaviour has been built into Lux for awhile.

Use the <network player> option in the player setup to make a slot available for a network player, but not used by a bot.
