...And we won 5 of 5 games. Not 1 of 5. |

I just wanted to say this is the most fun I've had playing Lux all year. These were some great games with some truly skilled players. I'm glad the games fell on my days off and I got to participate.
Preach - thanks for putting it all together and keeping it as organized as humanly possible.
MissChaos, michelle, Black Pope - thanks for the best rollercoaster ride of a game I've ever played:

That was truly an epic game.
MinorKing, *Manimal - come on guys, group hug.

I hate to highlight history, but the fact is before manimal did that mistake, the game was totally controlled by Team E... manimal even cashed on asia twice
good game team B, you were the best since 5-0 so far!
I admit that you deserve the medal!
cheers.
Preach well done dude you did a GREAT job. Survivor was the best so far!
Team E, it was a privilege being your team mate... cheers to all of you! |

I also had a great time Preach, Team B and everyone else, thanks.
I have a suggestion for next time. The missions idea might be better with teams of 2v2v2. That way there is more of a balance of power while trying to acheive your mission rather than just crush your enemies until you are strong enough to complete your mission. Our strategy was to ignore the mission and go for the easiest continents to get and protect until we could muscle the mission. Also it would be easier to get 2 members of your team together rather than 3.
Thanks again

Well...sorry about the delay, I've been pretty wasted today
Thanks again to everyone who took part, I know there was a fair amount of hanging around at times for teams to turn up and games to get started, that's the way of things in team games but thanks to everyone's patience it all went pretty smoothly considering.
I think there's some great potential here for Mission Lux in the future, there's been a lot of great suggestions from people throughout the tournament and this is definately something I'll be continuing with in the future. Mud, you're right that 3 teams of 2 would help prevent the type of games that were sometimes being played - I anticipated it (hence the no kill rule) but the only problem with teams of 2 is that you need 3 equally difficult missions per game, which can be tough to come up with on a map as small as Classic. There has been some talk of building a specific Survivor map though, tailored for strategic missions and multiple teams, so that's something to think about.
If we had had a little more hosting time, it would have been great to have been able to keep voting team members off throughout the finals, but as we only got 3 games in per qualifying team and some teams only had 3 members, it wouldn't have worked out - again, hopefully next time we'll be able to mess around with that a little more, as it adds a great twist I think.
There was some absolutely brilliant play at times, and some of the most fantastic games I've seen in the all the years I've been Luxing - a few moments spring to mind but the game between Teams B and C in the finals was an absolute classic (Blind Willie's reference a few posts back). SnyperEye put his abysmal reputation for team play (!) firmly behind him with a couple of gobsmackingly brilliant moves against Team G (trapping both Mike and Golgi in Oz like a couple of rats was a joy to behold), lol!
I should also like to credit pcristov, xanadu, and a few others (you know who you are, I've forgotten) who really showed some great sportsmanship by jumping in for those who crashed out mid game *cough* magpie *cough*, despite the fact they were on other teams they still played to win and it's much appreciated - there was really a great atmosphere throughout. It was also nice to see some old faces show up - slug and Chumdinger for example, it's good to see you guys still around.
Finally, I should say thanks to MissChaos for putting up with it all - 3 late nights in a row meant 3 days of missed school for her - so thanks honey!
Right...the moment you've all been waiting for...*drumroll*
Luxtoberfest Survivor 2006 Results

And finally - I'd like to present everyone else (if it's OK with Dustin) who was either on a team and showed up or who wasn't on a team but helped out as a ringer regardless with the semi-holy Femur of Participation:

It would be interesting to try out missions on some of the Castle maps. They're big enough for balanced 2v2v2 games, and they seem like a natural fit for missions (hold x castles for x turns, have x armies in x connected territories, etc). |

I'd just like to note that Snype and I always kicked @$$ in team games together, so i don't know what this "abysmal reputation" you speak of is.

Thanks preach, even though I wasn't there as much (got voted off and then just kinda came in and out once or twice), it was still incredible.
I play mission risk a lot at home so it was fun to see the idea on lux, hopefully that can become something in the future.
Thanks Preach for Survivor!!! :D |
