OK. So if I can't work from Classic, I need another map to start with. So I've created this one called "Octagons". I may want to rework the continent borders, or tweak the bonus numbers; so I'd love to get some feedback on that.

Once I have a decent working map, then I can try to throw in the asshatter country idea into it. And then maybe if I REALLY have time to kill, I'll make it all nice and theme-y.....

As of now, I just named everything after Iliad characters, and loosely connected them to their locales. . . .

Ooops, I had forgotten to add a description tag, so it didn't submit properly....let that be a lesson to all you fellow n00b mappers out there....

But NOW it should be out there.

Woohoo! It's no longer BETA, so feel free to start flaming me for the lack of choke points or whatnot.

OK....so Octagons is no longer MOTW.

Congrats Licht on making it 3-in-a-row. I may have to challenge you one of these weeks, just to keep you on your toes Wink

It turned out to be fairly marathonny in FH games, so apparently I haven't quite figured out as much as I thought, and I'm willing to implement some of the suggestions that kitty made (reduce size of continents, make more of them, etc.) to make it less EPIC....The question is, should I UPDATE the map, or just make a separate version of it? Any worth to keeping the original as it is?

The next question is whether the addition of the asshat country as will be in Pentagon HOLY WARS will be enough to make marathons unlikely, or whether I should make the same changes to THAT map before I release it.

Thoughts? Comments?

Hey n00less;

3DA deserved that MOTW gold because he had all the big wins....I just had a bunch of lil ones. Anyways, you could keep Octagons as it is and put out a newer version of it as well. If you have the time. Octagons is a different enough map to justify leaving it as it is.

As for Holy wars, you may want to tweak it even more just to make sure it will not marathon easily. It would be great if you came up with a map that does not marathon easily....errrr, as long as Sammy99 plays it, it will marathon anyway though. Just kidding, lol Sam.

I would suggest leaving Octagons as it is, and using the lessons learned for new maps you make.

Well, I COULD and I DID, for my own entertainment. But there are two considerations that make a Classic map not suitable to be put in the pluggin manager:

1) Term #5 for map uploads is:

Failure to supply proof of the original author's consent will cause the altered map to be rejected.

So, I can't just edit the Classic map, I'd essentially have to draw my own, or get permission....

But the second concern is that there are so many classic-based maps, that they are no longer accepting variations of Classic into the pluggin manager. For an idea of how many variations on classic there already are, check out: Classic Risk, Classic Part Deux, Classic Lux, Classic, Art of War, Risk Plus - Final Map, Two Worlds, deLUX World Map, Classic Part Delux - Delux, Risk Plus - Final 3, Classic Part Tres and I haven't even gone through 1/2 of the maps on there.....
