October 3rd - 4th is the 2009 Map Retrospective Weekend
October 3rd-4th is the 2009 Map Retrospective!!
All Weekend Long
The 2009 Map Retrospective Weekend will mean that only maps released in 2009 can be played online during the weekend.
That means no Classic, no Roman Empire II, and no Deux in any room during the weekend. Only maps released in 2009! Come out and play some of the great maps that have been released this year!
The scoring will be based on highest RAW at the end of the weekend, as long as that person played at least 3 games in the map retrospective.

May I recommend that Reaper be used as the sixth player when necessary ... no bots first ... ?dustin wrote:October 3rd-4th is the 2009 Map Retrospective!!
Scoring is as follows (for each game with 5+ humans):
So Reaper will get a chance to medal just like everyone else ...

Don't you pay attention to the Mod Forum? or maybe your just making sure all the Classicists, Bio, and romans understand that there beloved maps wont be available this weekend.-NN-Grim wrote:ok so this means literally that only new maps can be played online right?
like... Classic or Rome won't register on the tracker?

I'm going to change the scoring for this tournament, to encourage people to play more games on different maps.
I might just use RAW as the scoring mechanism, since this tournament corresponds with the weekly chase. Maybe turning off the MOTW bonus to give all maps equality for the weekend.
What do you think?

I think the MOTW players who don't read the forums will be confused.
Additionally, I think it will be a really interesting experiment using RAW for a Luxtoberfest tournament. In the end, the top placers probably will be weighted to those who played the most for the tournament, however. Should still be interesting to see exactly how it plays out.
P.s. pink hair is hot on you.

I would turn the bonus incentive for the motw off.
that would allow the chase to be played different maps rather than motw monopolizing all online play for those who are after RAW.
People who wish to chase using the motw map should have as incentive the fact that they will receive points for the motw competition.

Um ... uh ... really ... ?
Disabling the bonus would give a monstrous advantage to those who played Alexanders Conquests earlier this week ...
IMHO ... scoring systems shouldn't be changed mid-stream ... ever ...
But ... I take these things more seriously than everyone else ... and I'm not in charge ...
So ... whatever ... have fun ...

para has be arguing against the bonus and the how it effects the chase for ......i can't even remember how long.
And when we finally found an instance that would serve better to turn it off
he doesn't want to do it?
Make up your mind para.
it's frustrating since most of the time arguing with para is like arguing with a wall.
nothing productive comes out of it.

Enokrad ... you're missing my point ... consistency is the greater issue ...
Ground rules shouldn't be changed half way through the game ...
This week for example ... BWE and others have raced well ahead of everyone by virtue of the bonus ...
Removing it now would make it significantly harder for anyone to catch them ...
(Good luck to any middlings hoping to crack the top ten this weekend. Seriously. Good luck!)
That's why I said ... "I'm not in charge whatever have fun" ... and next time ... I'll just bite my tongue ...

I think that would be a great idea!dustin wrote:OK, thanks for the feedback guys. What about a slightly different change: turning the MOTW bonus ON for all the 2009 maps during the retrospective? That way everyone could crash the top ten on different maps.
I'd like to host winner's pick this weekend and that would make it very interesting.

The Map Retrospective Weekend has started! I've put up some hosts with a selection of 2009 maps that I like to start out with. All hosts can also join in and host 2009 maps of their choosing.
The scoring will be based on highest RAW at the end of the weekend (it will probably go later then the usual reset time). All ranked games can contribute to your score.

So the one to win the gold medal also wins this one? Dude, seriously...dustin wrote:The Map Retrospective Weekend has started! I've put up some hosts with a selection of 2009 maps that I like to start out with. All hosts can also join in and host 2009 maps of their choosing.

I think if the tournment is base on the finally of the RAW at the end of the weekend its just not great. Some player have already an big advantage and the tournment is just starting.I think it should be base like the VETS tournment or the Rookie tournment.
