The other day, Marauder and I were gossiping about college basketball (rock chalk jayhawk!) while waiting to get in a game, and he mentioned something about how mebbe we should consider having our own bracket challenge for us luxers, to which my immediate reply was: YES!
I March Madness time, so I thought I'd take it upon myself to put out a call to see if there would be enough interest to make setting up a lil NCAA bracket tourney worth it. For funsies. Any interest, comments, suggestions, judgements, wit or wisdom to share?
Obviously this would have to get started in the next couple of days, so speak up now, my lovely lux friends!

Sounds like a good idea to me!
I may even send a pm to Mazza to see if he will support our beloved Jayhawks this March by trading in thongs...

Silly Nim, you already know the answer! Think of them as the proverbial clown-car.
Now we just need a clown or two... |

Game on!
If you want it, you can now set up a bracket in our Lux group at cbssports.com Their bracket website is the most user-friendly, I think, and offers different scoring options. We'll go with a simple 1 point per correct pick, with no bonuses for higher rounds, unless anyone has an objection.
If you've expressed interest either here or to me in a room, I've pm'd you the details. And there's still a couple of days to sign up, if anyone wants in! MOAR IZ BETTER!

What game environment would be complete without a total n00b in the ranks? I'm in.
Now, someone give me juuuuust enough info about how to play so I can half-kill Nim. |

I would suggest higher values per round myself.
1/2/4/6...
Picking teams that go further should be worth something imho. It would also allow people that don't have the greatest first/second rounds to come back or at least have the chance to. |

As I told TSK, you can certainly feel free to make your picks based on whatever methodology you choose... actual merit, best color scheme, awesomest college town, sexiest mascot... up to you!
I will pm everyone the sign-up info, and from there you can create your bracket. It's very simple, but if anyone has questions with the process, let me know!
The deadline for locking in your bracket is 12pm EST (noon) this Thursday (March 15). |

I thought about this too, Mara, but my thought was it might be simpler to stick with a simple 1 point per pick, since everyone playing might not be the most familiar with the teams/process. That being said, I can still change my mind. Anyone else care? |

My favorite way to play is point by seed #
So every time you pick a 15 seed, they get 15 points
Or a 1 seed win gets 1 point...then it promotes a lot of upset picking and promotes risky vs. conservative strategies.
But honestly I'm down with whatever. |

Look on my brackets, ye Mighty, and despair! Of my sanity, probably.
Will's suggestion does sound fun, but I will follow wherever you choose to lead on this, dear Schroblette. And I daresay my picks are already risky enough...

I've played this way too, and it is fun. Although I think most people playing here have already made their brackets, but people can always go back and make even riskier choices before tomorrow at noon, should they feel so inclined.
I can also combine both Mara's and Will's scoring suggestions... increasing points per round AND a bonus based on seed. That way if your #12 seed somehow makes it through to the final four, you'd really be swimming in points |

OK, I used some insane criteria and have completed my bracket. Schro, can you confirm I got my info in correctly?...
and, is there a way to look at other people brackets?
nm, I just read that you can't see other peoples brackets until other brackets are locked in.

Well my picks are in; I couldn't decide whether to go with Kentucky or Western Kentucky to go all the way; they're basically the same right? |

Scoring Update...
Brackets will be scored by both round weight and seed bonus.
A correct pick's base score goes up by 1 each round (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). The base score is multiplied by the pick's seed. For example, if I correctly picked #2-seeded Kansas to beat North Carolina in the forth round (it could happen), then I would get 8 points for that pick that round... 4 (round) X 2 (seed) = 8.
As Marauder pointed out, this makes picking a team that goes further worth progressively more, and allows people that didn't have great early rounds more chance to come back. AND, as Big Will pointed out, the seed multiplier rewards people who correctly picked an upset. Also, moar points iz moar fun!! |
