making my first map, need a little guidance... help!!

Hey friends, I have been putting together a pretty cool map, and I would love for all my fellow luxers to tell me what they think of it when it is finished. Ironically I figured out all the hard parts, and put the map together but now I want to decorate my map, and make it look great. However I keep getting this water background with a battleship in it, and it's not really going with the theme of my map. I would love to put mountains and such... any ideas how to make that happen? Thanks friends for all your advice.
