I have been trying to host a tournament for a few months now. I now believe I have all of the details and resources in place and could choose to put this into motion at any time, and I am only waiting because I don't know if hosting a tournament is beneficial right now. It could be:
a) Great: it gets people excited to play, though it is in no way any kind of larger fix for anything
b) Disappointing: people don't mind playing, but the maps and rules for this tournament aren't necessarily ideal for some people, and they are sad that the one event occurring is something they don't love
c) Counterproductive: It might draw some people away from Bio for a few days, but it also might dilute the small pool of players into multiple rooms
d) Invisible: People enjoy the tournament, but almost no one plays, and it is basically a wasted initiative.
Do people think I should host this tournament within the next few weeks? I know it may depend on the details of it, and it will be a very quirky tournament, but if people are looking for something new, we can go forward. |

I hate to be greedy, but can we get back to immediate business. I'm all for you running a tourny Coaster Typhoon, but don't expect too much. Lux is really just full of part time Bio players at the moment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a few ideas that I think could be easily implemented pretty much immediately.
1) Let GK back into Lux. And yes, I am serious. As you can see, he still has passion for this game, and could contribute greatly to many things Lux at the moment.
2) Put up a new players section in the Forums with some tutorials, explanations, etc.
3) Allow para some decision making ability in "official" Lux rankings.
4) Set up a process to contact new purchases regarding the exciting and improving world of online Lux.
I asked earlier if Dustin or the mods had any ideas or input, Dustin kindly responded.
As peon forum members, we can only present ideas. Implementation has to come from the top down, as was mentioned earlier. That being said, is there any course of action or plan outside of the ho hum standard? If not, I will shut up like many may hope

So now what?
We just wait to hear from Dustin?
∞ Marauder has a funny feeling this was all for naught ∞
If no action is taken, this will be absolutely pointless. And as I have mentioned, no action can be taken from casual forum posters. |

1. Lux is not dead. We have had about 20 different opinions on this and if everyone who chimed in played some games of classic, we would have more FH.
2. Which leads me to my next point...if people are joining this game because they searched for risk and Bio and many other maps that do not resemble classic are dominating the game play, they will likely be either turned off by playing online or convert immediately to bio strategy to be successful. But everyone knows, in order to truly succeed at this game, you must understand the basic concepts, which you learn in classic. The biggest problem with Bio is that a chimp could win a game of Bio at an average rate if you teach him how to click a mouse. The ability to win right when you start playing is making these players feel good, so they decide to keep playing Bio and therefore never evolve as players. And then once they finally realize bio players are thick-skulled and come play classic, their income-first mentality makes them lose at an extremely high rate. Most don't have the patience to learn classic (or have the ability to play it with such few FH). Therefore, they are stuck playing bio or nothing.
3. Stop asking Dustin to do anything. The game does not need to evolve that much. Sure everything can be tweaked and he could do a lot to help the online community, but nothing has changed from the past...The games are made by players and the strategy stays the same. If you want a better community, help promote it by playing more classic and teaching newbs (not N00bs) the ropes.
4. Let GK back...this community is way too sensitive. |

I'd be interested in learning if General Klown has evolved to the point where he can contain his rage rants.... No point in unbanning him if he gets a new ban the week he's released from Gitmo (or wherever we keep him)
How's he been at Vox? What do YOU think GK? Can you control your outbursts? |

Honestly, GK can be a dick and obnoxious but so can I and so can most people who have a competitive drive. Does he go overboard? Yeah, a lot...but isn't the passive aggressive thing for us to say is that is why we have a mute button?
I feel like a lot of the competitive drive has been shunned/pushed away from lux to the point where anyone can win a first place medal these days with little to no fanfare compared to how it used to be where we had 2 or 3 rooms minimum going and just winning a bronze was an accomplishment. Not to take anything away from anyone, but the competive nature Lux once had just isn't there anymore. GK would definitely help that and if you don't like what he or anyone else has to say, just mute them. They can't hurt you over a computer. |

| Wow Big Will, you bring up a great point about multiple rooms going for people to win the gold. I can remember instances of players playing multiple games at once to take first as the clock ticked as well. |

So are people proposing changes to the online code to ALLOW offensive outbursts from LUXXERS? The use of profanity may be one thing but I'm not in favor of dismissing the rules we've set up to govern online Lux; I can't possibly see how that would improve the community. The first time GK goes off on some n00b because he didn't farm or he unknowingly asshatted him may not encourage communal growth
I'm all in favor of competitive play, but if he can't keep control of himself.... |

You know how many times I've been screamed at by GK? A lot. You sound like a girl scout N00.
Compared to most online game communities, this place is like a nursing home.
I'd take GK getting angry at my moves over me getting angry at Baden's move every day of the week. But what is frowned upon more here? The reaction. |

This isn't about YOU Will. This would be more along the lines of how new players would react to that. Are profanity laced insults going to keep people wanting to come back or are they going to be pushed away?
You, though, are also right about how sensitive we are. I've seen time and time again people freak out about how other people play. Yes, sometimes it is necessary when it happens again and again, but many times have I seen friends go off on each other because of farming and so on.
That isn't going to exactly thrill newcomers to the game. |

I would also like to state the obvious here.
A new player isn't going to know a good move from a bad one, but they will take notice of how people react to said moves. That turns the whole GK and Baden example on it's head. |

A few of the ideas i've seen thrown out there that make sense to me:
(and yes I know they've been discussed before, lets see if this thread produces any results...)
~Fix rankings
~ Re-enlist GK
~If big D doesn't want to put in the time himself, give trusted/contributing players (para) more power. |

Thanks for your solution-oriented approach Marauder. So:
• General K has been re-instated to online Lux. He'll be covered by the normal mod policy from here on out.
• For a long time now, every person who purchases Lux gets this at the bottom of the email with their code:
That page is part of the wiki, so any luxer can edit it and sub-pages. This is the intro-to-lux section for newbies. Feel free to make it better.
• Are there any facebook posting fanatics in the house? Let me know and I can enable you to edit/post things as the Lux Delux FB page , which has almost 5000 fans. I hear FB is big these days..
• I haven't sent out a Sillysoft newsletter in far too long. So I will send one out tomorrow, with a Lux sale and encouragement for subscribers to come play online. |

Dustin,
I think these are all good things. Thanks. And welcome back GK even though I'm still scarred by you ripping me apart for hitting your lightly-protected NA when I had SA during one of my very first Classic games... |

Actually... It was one of my VERY first games online... and I had no idea about words like 'farm', 'burn' and such... GK had just taken NA (maybe round 4 or 5)... and was holding it with a border of 1+1... so I hit it (it was big income compared to SA)... and he FREAKED on me! It almost scared me away from online play til others in the room, including para, said don't worry about him. lol If you look at my aliases, I created one called General L after him... cause he annoyed me so much, I told him L is one letter better than K in the alphabet. He didn't like that. lol... anyway, half a decade of online lux play and 14,000 games later and I'm not sure I've gotten any better, but it's sure been fun trying Nonetheless, I've been known for some pretty good rants myself... so i get it... and again, welcome back GK!
