I put up a page that lists all the maps that have been submitted since the end of last year's Luxtoberfest. These are all eligible for the Best Map award.
http://sillysoft.net/contests/2006maps.php
If you'd like to nominate any maps for consideration, this is the thread to do it in. There will be a 2006 retrospective night during Luxtoberfest to play some of the best 2006 maps.
Final voting details will come at the start of October. The voting period will last through the month, until the awards are given out at the closing ceremonies on October 29th.
Here are my personal nominations, for the very Best Map of 2006 (in alphabetical order):
AHL Mexican-American War
Anglo-Celtic Isles
Armengia
Aufstieg des Deutschen Reiches
Blocks 2 - A Bridge Too Far
Castle Lux - The Last King
Monopoluxy
Pursuit
Roman Empire 1
tribal africa 1800s
Tunnel

Here are my nominations to add to the list:
- WWII Battles-Guadalcanal
- AHL French and Indian War
- Ivalice
- Alexander's Empire
Also, what is the cutoff date for new maps submitted to be included this year? Before October, or before October 14th, when the map nights begin?
Also, can we nominate more for this list during the map nights? |

Oops... forgot one.
Pirateers - Arrr!
dustin, I've noticed that the First Submitted dates are wrong for all of my maps. They look like last updated dates... |

The cutoff for inclusion this year is until the end of October. Realistically, the sooner the better and time is running out. I kind of doubt that any map released after now will be able to gain enough support to get voted for an award. But who knows for sure...
You can nominate maps here whenever you want. Consider this also your personal nomination for people to vote for a map as the Best Map. It's not a group thing, so if there are a few on my list that you also think are awesome then call them out again yourself.
I fixed the dates, thanks for the note. |

I'm confused.
Aren't all these maps nominated for best map? http://sillysoft.net/contests/2006maps.php
If so, then what exactly are we nominating maps for in this thread?
If not, does that mean only the maps nominated in this thread are up for best map? I don't think that's very fair.
Does each plugin manager category receive a best map award (which is what it says here http://sillysoft.net/contests/) or is there only 1 best map of 2006?
What about map generators?
And another thing! Why isn't el toro banned! All he does is spread LIES! I hate him! You know!?...oh wait this isn't the rant thread...sorry

| It may not be the most favorite or "best" map of the year, but fullerines deserves some kind of award for its truly revolutionary design. |

I definately think, what with the plethora of maps available, that we need at least:
Best 2006 Design
Best 2006 Playability
Best 2006 Marathon-based map with a picture of Dustin on it |

All of those maps are eligeble for best map. However, since there's so many of them I thought it would be useful to ask people to 'nominate' their favorites here. All your nomination does is raise the profile of the maps you call out a bit.
Awards will be given out in these categories:- Map of the Year
- Categories
- Fantasy Realms
- Geographic - Asia
- Geographic - Europe
- Geographic - North America
- Geographic - Other
- Geometric Shapes
- Historical
- Random Map Generators
- Space
