Monday October 2nd, Tournament of Champions for Rookies!!

12 AM GMT time / 8 PM Eastern time / 5 PM Pacific

In order to qualify as a Rookie you must have joined online Lux in the last year. If you played online before the last Luxtoberfest you are not a rookie. A little bit of leeway can be given if you joined close to this cutoff point.

This TOC will consist of 1-3 rooms (as needed) with only Rookies playing, for a period of 3 hours. It's OK to show up somewhat late to this event and still join in.

The maps played will be Classic Risk, Classic Part Deux, and maybe some Castle or surprise maps. A mix of card and continent settings will be used.

Scoring is as follows (for each game):
8 points for 1st place
5 points for 2nd place
4 points for 3rd place
3 points for 4th place
2 points for 5th place
1 point for 6th place

Each person's score will be calculated as (total points / games) with a minimum of 3 games required. If there is a tie then a tie-breaker match will be played to declare the Rookie winner.

Do you need to pre-register for this or do folks just turn up?

Cheers,

Can AI's participate, or is this exclusively for humans? Reaper was submitted last November, so technically he is a rookie...

I have a quesiton concerning Tournament of Champions, for both Rookies and Old Folks.

I technically started playing online July 10th, 2005 under a screename that is irrelevant and had around 100 games only.
I started playing on 'Eice' November 15th, 2005 and that qualifies for the 'rookie' status.

My question is, I 'technically' don't go under the 'rookie' status since I was there before Luxtoberfest II, however I certainly don't think I would be concidered old enough to be an 'old folk'.

So am I a rookie, am I an old folk, or do I just not get to participate in either event?

I'm pretty sure I'm just over thinking, but I figured I'd ask (that and another question I had was already asked about signing up or just showing up).

Well Eice ... did you participate in last year's Luxtoberfest using that "irrelevant" name ... and did you receive any awards ... ?

Nope, the reason I say irrelevant is just because it doesn't really matter what the name was.

I was not active in motw, luxtoberfest, or really the online thing as much.
I played maybe 100 games, never really played motw, and most definitly didn't take part in luxtoberfest and thus didn't recieve any awards.

You do not need to pre-register. Just show up at the appointed time and join in the Luxtoberfest room(s).

Bertrand wrote:

If there are some rooms with only 4 or 5 humans then the bots might get a chance to join in a bit, but it is mostly for humans.

If you joined more then 1 year ago (under any name) then you are not a Rookie, sorry. The exact definition of Old Timer hasn't been decided yet, but not everyone will fit into Rookie or Old Timer. Everyone will be able to join in the regional TOCs, so you can all come out for that regardless or join date, seed, sex, or whatever.

Something like before summer 2005 should be considered old. Just my opinion.

I'm wondering if the time can be pushed up by 1 hour. If not, it's no big deal, but the Philadelphia Eagles (American football for all of you not in the US) are playing the Monday night game against the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff is at 8:30 EST, and well, I'd rather watch the Eagles. But starting at 7 EST will give me an hour and a half to play. Like I said, though, it's no big deal if it can't start any earlier.

Sorry, but the starting time will not change, but the tourney will last through a couple of hours so it's OK to show up late. You could drop in at different points (halftime?) and get your games in also.

Okay, I figured as much. I'll probably TiVo it, and start it around 9 or 9:30 EST, so hopefully that will give me enough time to get the required amount of games in.

Yeah, I tried that. They said they will push it back for me, but only by 112 seconds. So, I'll take what I can get.

The Rookies TOC starting time is in 45 minutes from now. It may start a little bit early if enough rookies show up...

OK, we have 4 Rookie rooms going now.

Who are these rookies you may ask?

*Manimal and masshole are the first 2 winners.

As players so far we've also got MrRebs, Dominator, Grozoth, Dang, Shall, bryce4president, Lars, Sabre, General K, berzerker, pcristov, Mersault, Golgi, Vidar, Utan, redrum, candj, Soca Warrior, Grimster, nikki, RCrum, PSU7685, Mysterious Bird-Man, Ross42, and DesertFox.

I'm sure there's a bunch more still to come....

Thanks for a great entrance to Luxtoberfest! My personal favourite bit of the night was the air of beffudlement that appeared after the line "the next map will be Octagon" appeared! Very Happy
