Based on the Europe Large map, this map alters the continents for much better balance, and to reflect the situation during the Thirty Years War. I made sure that the continents were worth an appropriate amount for their relative influence during that war, and separated Germany in two to reflect the religious split. I essentially lowered the continent values across the board, according to a new formula. This map has many, many places to start with a chance at winning, rather than the four or so in Europe Large original. I have extensively tested this map with the AI, and according to my records, Cluster, EvilPixie, Quo, and Yakool have performed the best in AI-only matches. I suspect, however, that EvilPixie will provide the best single-player challenge.
Version 1.1: New scenario added. The powers are the Ottoman Empire, the Hapsburgs of Spain and Austria, the French, the Empire of all Russias, the Swedish/Danish/North German Protestant Alliance, and the Anglo-Dutch alliance. The Ottomans are the strongest, and it may take diplomacy to shoot them down. Their army is not the strongest, but their economy is mighty (they get a lot of reinforcements.) They win nearly half the games. Spain/Austria is also powerful, and probably has the most troops. However, their position is weak, in that they have two power bases. They need to try to connect them; hence their eyes turn on France. France is surrounded by enemies, but is strong militarily. It will be hard to win from their position...but they did in real life, under the leadership of Cardinal Richeleau. They must make alliances to survive, as their borders are long and hard to defend. The Russians were not yet as powerful as they would be later, and were a backward nation. But they were big, and their army is fairly large. Also, they are protected to the North and East. They have a solid strategic position, but they must watch for their mighty southern neighbors. The Anglo/Dutch alliance is not very strong in armies, but also does not have very many borders to defend. An alliance of the English and the Swedish could yield excellent results. The Swedish, Danish, and North German alliance is vulnerable, but militarily strong. Their borders are long. They have a difficult position, and cannot afford to fight all of their neighbors at once.
