First Macedonian Wars Map

First Macedonian War (211-205 BC) Concocted by both the greed of of the war-profiteering Roman Magistrates and the mounting desire to retaliate for Philip of Macedonia's alliance with Hannibal, the Macedonian Wars were the first of a series of unpopular campaigns started with the intention of staving off Hannibal and his forces from the boarders of Rome. The Romans were clearly not interested in aquiring any permanant property, but were in desperate need of allies to do their biddings. In 211 BC the Romans formed an alliance with the Aetolians, old enemies of Philip's. In 209 BC Rome was joined by Attalus of Pergamum in their effort to destroy Philip, great-grandfather of Alexander the Great. In 207 Philip invaded Aetolia, but the Romans did little to help. Were the gods looking favorably upon Philip finally? Would Rome prove too powerful for Philip while holding all the strings over their league of puppet forces?
