The Crusades Map

In the 1100s, the Crusaders set out from Europe to wrest the Holy Land from the Moslems. This map portrays the theater of the Crusades, focusing in particular on the Holy Land itself. The Holy Land is shown magnified in an inset, a larger view of the main map in that area. There are six powers in the Crusader scenario: The Crusaders start aboard ship in the Mediterranean with a mighty army and a variety of potential targets. The Fatimids are the Moslem power in Egypt, and a key player in the Holy Land. The Seljuk Turks are the Fatimids' Moslem rival from the East, based in Persia and the Fertile Crescent. They are the third power in the Holy Land. The Rum Seljuks are a branch of the Seljuk Turks in Anatolia, and are the bitter rival of the Christian Byzantines. The Byzantine Empire, based in mighty city of Constantinople, is the remnent of the once-proud Roman Empire. The Holy Roman Empire represents Christian Europe and the Catholic Church in Rome.
