The winners of the 2007 Lux Awards will be announced live in an online Lux room on Sunday, October 28th. You have until the night before to send in your votes for the best maps, generators, and AI of the year. You can see the list of all this year's maps and plugins here:

Roman Battles Lux expansion pack and more

Biohazard is the latest map generator to be released for Lux Delux. It takes the Classic or Deux maps and randomly nukes out some countries to create a new map for each game. It's available now in the plugin manager for registered users. It won't run on Mac OS X 10.3 computers unfortunately, unless you join a network game hosting it. Take note that Biohazard is this week's online Map of the Week.

If you have any maps installed from a long time ago check the plugin manager for updated versions. All the oldest maps have been updated with starting scenarios and cleaned up bonus screens where needed.

Lux Delux 5.6 update

Lux Delux has been updated to version 5.6. This version comes with more mod keys (see below), network game improvements, new preferences, and a new default map U.S.A. War Zone. This is a free update for registered Delux users, alongside an updated demo.

5.6 changes in detail:
Hold down one of the 2-9 keys and click countries while placing armies to divide your group into 2-9 equal groups.

There are new settings in the Preferences window.

The map editor has a new mode to draw shapes, including circles, ovals, and hexes. It also has better edit shapes mode and Undo.

Lux updates, education program and more

Lux Delux has been updated to version 5.4. Changes include:
- The Plugin Manager was divided into sections so it's easier to find what you want among the 350 plugins.
- An Info button was added to the map window.
TIP: You can have the Player Info area inside the map window. Look under the Game menu while playing to move it there. Drag it around with your mouse to wherever you want.
- A fresh 20 game trial in the demo.

Memorial Day charity fundraiser, Lux updates

In honor of Memorial Day, Sillysoft is holding a charity fundraiser. 100 percent of American History Lux proceeds from now until Friday June 2nd will be donated to charity. The Carter Center will be the recipient, with the stated goals to "wage peace, fight disease, and build hope."

It's easy to gloss over the harsh reality of conflict when playing a computer war game. Sillysoft feels a responsibility to give something back in honor of the men and women who have fought and died to bring us the liberties that we take for granted every day.

If you've been thinking of buying AHL, then this week would be a good time. I've set up a Memorial Fundraiser page with the details, and where the final amount raised will be posted.

Lux's official name has been augmented to be "Lux Delux" and it has been updated to version 5.31. This release fixes some bugs (the problem with the player info area disappearing inside the map window), adds the /map network command, and includes a beta of a headless server option. Lux 5.2 and updated AI developer kit

More network commands were added, translation of network messages was improved, and autohosting was given a booster shot. A new version of the AI software developer kit is also now available. This SDK contains everything you need to write an AI for Lux using the Java programming language. Second Annual Luxtoberfest Contest and Celebration

Sillysoft Games has announced the start of the second annual Luxtoberfest contest and celebration. The month-long festival runs through October and forms the yearly championship for the community surrounding the downloadable strategy game Lux.

Luxtoberfest features special events on every October weekend, starting and ending with Tournaments of Champions between the current highest-ranked players. Later weekends will include team play tournaments, map reviews, "Twitch Lux," "Memory Lux," and the grand finale award ceremonies.

All events will take place at 9 PM GMT time / 4 PM Eastern time / 1 PM Pacific time in a public network game of Lux marked with Luxtoberfest according to this schedule:

Saturday 1st - Luxtoberfest 2005 opening Tournament of Champions.
Sunday 2nd - Team-play tournament.

Saturday 8th - Luxtoberfest map review: play the best maps of 2005.
Sunday 9th - Twitch Lux tournament: 8 second turn time games.

Saturday 15th - Team-play tournament.
Sunday 16th - Hexathon tournament: featuring all your favorite hex maps.

Saturday 22nd - Memory Lux tournament: all players have the same color.
Sunday 23rd - History night: a journey through the historically based maps of Lux.

Lux version 5.1

Version 5.1 of Lux: The Game of Universal Domination is now available for downloading from Sillysoft Games. This update changes the multiplayer ranking system so that each registration can only have 1 name in the rankings. This change comes after some extensive discussion about it in the Lux Forums.

Version 5.1 also includes support for international characters (including Japanese and other unicode letters) in ranking system nicknames and in Lux map files.

Sillysoft Games releases Lux 5!

Sillysoft Games has released Lux 5, a major update to their Risk inspired world domination game. Some of Lux 5's crazy new features include:

Map scenarios - Maps can now include a starting scenario. The maps that come with Lux now all include scenarios. Look for the 200+ maps in the Plugin Manager to be updated with scenarios soon.

Increasing continent values - You can set a preference to have the bonus values for holding continents increase by a percentage every round.

New graphics, new sounds! - Lux now includes updated graphics including army pictures and the ability for maps to display graphics on top of the countries. More sounds have been added along with extra control over them. Look in the Sounds tab in the Preferences to control which sounds get played.

Small screen support - Large maps are now automatically resized to fit on small screens (12" laptop users - this is for you). You can turn this off and/or manually resize maps while playing them from the Board menu.

Multiplayer improvements - The chat area now displays the color of players beside their name. There's a new /guest command to switch yourself to a guest only mode. The host can use the new /boot command to disconnect players who have been inactive for 2 rounds. You can now host non-ranked games.

Map of the Week - In an effort to get online players to vary their selection of map there is now a revolving Map of the Week. The name of the featured map is displayed in the 'Join a Game' window, along with next week's map. All ranked games played on the Map of the Week provide bonus rankings points to winning players.

International support - The preferences window now contains a switch to control which language Lux displays in. 12 languages are available including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Japanese!
