adjustable armies sizes for teams in setup (done by quasar)

I'd like to have a "random start" mode in addition to the scenarios, like how most online lux games start.

There are different ways of doing this...

1. random countries, random armies, no castles. Players have to gather together a few troops and build a castle.

2. random countries, random armies, 1 random castle for each player.

3. castles exist in the same place that the scenario has them, but other countries are random or empty.

4. another way?

i like 1 and 2 alot (3 i don't know, would have to try it)

i was thinking more in the line of adjustable army sizes within the context of the scenario(but this would work with the above ideas as well)...

sort of like a resources slider bar that adjusts the amount of starting armies all players have, like as a percentage.

(maybe even a separate bar to adjust the amount of income country bonuses give)

Another way could be 'survivor' start - there are no castles - each player starts with enough money for 1 castle, but no armies of 5.... so that you have to pull 5 men together to build a castle.

This reallay exploits the whole 5 men needed to build a castle element - and could make some interesting strategies, to prevent people from building a castle.

The down side of 'player order' is eliminated by the fact that it is same time.

I can see option 3 leading to some very unlucky starts, ie one player starts with a huge army next to an empty castle, then 1st round they have 2 castles and a huge advantage.

While I like the idea of no castles and the player has to combine armies to get one, I think that would be better as an advance feature down the road after players are use to how Vox plays and works. So, I say option 4:

Random countries, random armies, 1 free placed castle for each player that gets placed by the player anywhere on the map before the first round starts.

well this broke off into a nice little side thing but...

adjustable starting resources:

(let me try and clear this idea up)
===================
starting armies
epic = %200 starting armies
standard =%100 starting armies (mapmaker original settings)
skirmish =%50 starting armies

the host chooses a radio button for one of the above options
----------------------------------
resources
epic = %200 country income
standard =%100 country income (mapmaker original settings)
skirmish =%50 country income

the host uses a slider bar to choose these options
===================

i would love this feature

For a random start, how about random countries but no troops, with a free castle you must place on your first turn.

That's an interesting idea. It would make that first turn very important. If 2 players put castles right next to each other it's going to hurt them badly. A player who places far away from others will be helped. You can't see where other people are placing, so it might be hard to know where to place.

It could make for faster games though.
