Yep, that's crossed my mind too. Or a floating one..... Or a few small overview maps. But multiple polygons per territory isnt supported yet...

Your hexes reduce the territory count a factor 2. Still big, but not extreme.

I'll continue with mine. Thnxs

Still a bit rough but this is the story....

Rome, 2014
The 78 year old multi tycoon Prime Minister of Italy, Sylvio Berlusconi and his party "Il Popolo della Libertà" received majority of votes in the 2012 elections. Quickly new laws were installed that would protect Berlusconi against criminal prosecution and also assured firm control over Italy's politics for the coming years, in fact ending the democracy in Italy.
However, in 2013, after Greece and Portugal, Italy was struck hard by the credit crisis. Berlusconi lost his fortune and lost control over his Media Empire, the true basis of his rule over the Italian people. This resulted in the break down of "Il Popolo della Libertà", into smaller fractions, of which only the extreme right parties still supported Berlusconi. Berlusconi offered a legal status to criminal organisations in turn of (financial) support. The criminal organisations unified into the "Organizzazione Criminale Unificato (OCU)" to enlarge their influence.
Demonstrations against Berlusconi's rule were suppressed aggressively by the OCU, resulting in several casualties.
On a local level resistance emerged, supported by rebelling army units. Are you able to lead such a resistance group, fighting rival resistance groups, the national army and the OCU? Are you able to reunite Italy?

1st draft in vox didn't startup...
(probably beacause of all the copying and pasting)

reloaded with only a few territories and it started!
but, it looks like i will have to draw all the territories by hand :(

what about 2 versions...
ancient and the future one?
(i really want to play this as roman ) :D

i could give you a working copy with all the territories and connections and you could tweek it however you want in your version.

Whoops sorry that previous link didn't work, but since you're going with MODERN Italy, I'd suggest starting HERE. Nice interactive map with the ability to open smaller maps for individual sections:

No, I just want Japan. That is the key to winning sometimes.

I had a look at Japan yesterday. It (almost) has the right shape. Islands are nice natural divisions..... Seems interesting

Hey, fast work. Ask Mark for advice only, not for active participation... I don't want to share the applause with too many people.... ;-)

Sometimes it loads, sometimes it does not. When it loads it does that quickly, sometimes slowly. When able to play it shows "no connection to host" after the first move, or maybe even after placing the first armies.
Scrolling is a bit shaky....

Are we pushing the limits too much?

I'm only filling in names (I'll need a phone book) when it works well...

I got a "map error: java heap space" when playing as "none".

Maybe it's Apple's own Java that's giving problems?

Love you too man!

The map never loads when I try to launch it, it is just perpetually stuck on the "loading resources." I let it load for 2 hours one time, never got past that part.

Alpha 64 was just uploaded. It makes a memory request on all platforms, so should fix any memory issues, and at least uncover the next bug...

Some bots may become very slow on the map, and/or break on it. Let me know which ones. Quirky at least should still be very fast for testing.

(Alpha 64 also has a preference to turn off the auto-scroll following the mouse behaviour)

PS: The red continent border lines and the blue river lines aren't different enough. It seems weird to me that I can cross one, but not the other.

it was working in the last version.

now the bots never take their turn.
