co-op team maps, team variations

Post by dustin » Fri Aug 20, 2010 5:36 pm

I was playing some multi-player games last night, and we were wanting to play co-op games. I realized that there aren't that many maps with a 3-player side, so 3 of us could all work together.

Do we have any 3v2 maps yet?
What about 3v3?

There are gaps in map team variations that we still need to fill.

I'm thinking of adding a Teams column to the map manager, so it's easier to find which maps have what teams. Thoughts?

American Revolution is a 3v2

battle of chancellorsville and battle of red cliff are both 3v3

Napoleonic Wars is a 4v4v1

I think a teams column would be helpful.

American Revolution is a 3v2, but some players are much stronger than others.

I'd like to get a 3v2 map where players are roughly comparable. What about a 3v2 Allies vs Axis WW2 homage? Somebodies going to do it sometime, I bet.

Also, I was thinking Rabbit Pasture might be good as a 3v3 map.

I could make alexander 3 vs 3. The area's owned by alexander vs the rest.

If you think it would work well.

Also, I'd like to get a cool 3v1 map...

I'm planning a 4 v 2 map, but could do variations on that - 3 v 2 or 4 v 1 or 2 v 1, etc. If there is a specific gap you want filled, let me know and I will make it happen.

I definitely think having a teams column in the plugin manager would be helpful, so it's easier to tell which maps have what teams.

Jesterme kindly passed on his idea for an Alcatraz map.

The design of 'countries' and means of connection are quite compact so far, well suited to a small number of players.

3 vs 1 scenario could be organised gangs of escapees vs Prison Guards/Marines

so are we gonna just make multiple versions of the maps we want or think should have an alternate player setting?

maps i wanted to play on free-for-all settings but couldn't:

-roman empire (the holy one too, nevermind the holy one is ffa)
-bushido
-cosmic clash
-robin hood (maybe with the sheriff robinhood and some bandits or something)

i wouldn't mind converting these into free-for-all's if it's ok with map makers.

Yeah I'd like to see the same especially for offline play as the bots aren't up to speed when it comes to teaming. I suggested it before somewhere in this forum but it got the thumbs down.

I included single slots for Alcatraz (3vs1) and a new one just finished Spartacus (3vs2vs1) in the hope they'd be more appealing to offline players.

I suppose there's the matter of how to label the same map with different team settings?

No teams = BUSHIDO
Teams 2vs2vs2 = BUSHIDO T.2,2,2
Teams 4vs2 = BUSHIDO T.4,2

 :?:

I would've thought you'd go the reverse as some maps could have 2 or more teaming variations. Free for all maps would be identifiable by their lack of team info in the title + personally I'd want to avoid adding extras to a title when it can be avoided.

No. If same maps/different starts (free for alls, teams) was given the go-ahead I'd look at turning the original titles which have teamed starts into free for alls and release their teamed version(s) with new titles.

As dustin says it's early days. I reckon it would be best if there was a user friendly way to ID all non-free for all maps to show number of players and their teaming configuration in the title.

Yes i saw that it's very clear. I was only talking about titles in relation to how multiple versions of the same map would best be handled. If one map had two different team configurations + a free for all version for instance - what would be the best way to title and ID them.
