what is RSS for, i mean really?
it's just another way to do things you can already do as far as i can tell.

is it a fad?
i don't get it.

You can subscribe to it, and then get notified whenever something new comes out. It's good for subscribing to a bunch of websites, and then you can see all their updates in one place - your RSS reader.
