Combat Mechanics

Post by plugger » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:56 am

G'day,

Like the game. Confused about the combat.

Pawns cost 3 gold and are worth 3 pts for attack and defence?

Knights cost 5 gold and are worth 5 pts for attack and only 3 for defence?

Castles are worth 4 pts for defence?

Correct or am I away with the fairies?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Plugger

Pawns are 1 on attack, but 3 on defence.

Knights are 5 on attack, but 2 on defence.

Does that mean that if I attack with 2 knights = 10 p
and the defender have 3 pawns = 9 p

so in this case the knights(attackers) should win, but when I run the numbers in battle odds Calculator
I get the following: Defenders win, remaining units: 0.91 pawns.

why is that and where I'm wrong?

G'day,

Thanks for the information.

If two opposing sides move into an empty region simultaneously do they both use their attack values or is the attacker/defender determined by ownership of the region?

Cheers,

The battle odds calculator is based on normal dice chance. All units roll 6-side dice which means:
Knight (attack strength 5) equals 5/6 for success.
Pawn (defense strength 3) equals 3/6 for success.

In case of success the attacking/defending unit always dies.

In your example that means for the first round:
2 Knights equal 10/6 = ~1,67 pawns
3 Pawns equal 9/6 = 1,5 knights
and so on...

Since the calculator only gives average results, it is (of course) not always right depending on dice luck.

Edited to add quotes.

There is a Vox Player Guide that should answer most of these questions, also your one.

If one of the opposing sides owns the empty region then this side can only use defense values when entering. The other attacks.

Yes.
I think it's answered with the following two statements and I assume that owning a country legitimates the whole team to only defend in such a situation.

If there is no defender in a country - and 3 separate teams attack it, does one get designated as the 'defender'?

No, they will all use attack values.

...

If player A and player B both attack a country owned by player C - how is the battles figured?

A and B will both attack the defender to start with, with the defender fighting against both of them at the same time.
If the defender gets eliminated then A and B attack each others forces until only 1 player is left.

I dont understand this part. how did my 2 knights become 1,67 pawns?
and how did 3 pawns become 1,5 knights?

No. You can't just add up the total values of each unit to find the winner. The higher value side will kill more units in the first battle round, but if the other side starts with more units, then might end up winning after multiple rounds of battle happen.
