Online Map Shake-up

Post by mbauer » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:20 am

Seems some of these maps have gotten stale as no one is joining them. Perhaps we should switch some out?

I suggest putting down for a little while the following:
Napoleon
Indus
Black Legend
China
Spartacus
Rabbits
1812
Bushido

And adding some of these to the daily games
Vietnam
Crusades
First Americans
Battle of the Bulge
The Raid and/or Black Friday
Galactic Empires
Khan
Hades
7 Moons

Keep Napoleon I reckon.

But yeah, shake up sounds good. Be keen to see how The Great War fares online too.

Mentor went on vacation for two weeks last weekend. I'm gonna advise him of it when he returns.

I shut down some of the hosts as requested.

I actually think less is more now. Too much choice makes it hard for new players to know what to try. In lux it's developed that there are 3 main popular maps, and it wouldn't be surprising if something similar emerged in Vox.

I am not playing any games right now and the main reason is that I get bored with the same old maps. The main maps I have played recently are the new ones like WWII Pacific. Add that to the fact that half the games being played right now are 3 humans against all bots which is a total waste of time. If there were a way to balance teams I would probably play more but short of that the only thing that interests me is trying my hand at a new map.

I would come play

Vietnam
Battle of the Bulge
Kursk
World War I
Alamo
Battle of Red Cliff
The Crusades
Battle of New Orleans
Galactic Empires

We try to release 1 map a week, would it be possible to have a host that is always playing the most recent map release?

I threw up a daily Vietnam room.

Try using the /map command to change the map in other rooms where the game hasn't started yet.

When I try that I get this message:

✱ You cannot change the map in long-timer hosts ✱

Anyway this can be changed? Seems like it would be a simple fix to play new maps.

Would be great if there was option to stall the start of games until they reach capacity.

Most players are understandably shy about joining after the first few rounds have passed.

I agree that seeing the same maps for too long can be a deterrent to playing, I think a good mix of "classical/most liked" maps and new maps it's the ideal ^_^

I would like to request a few more 24 hour hosts. There are 2 I have been playing in and the other 2 are at or around round 200 and don't appear to be resetting anytime soon.
