Luxshoppe 2011 — Signups and Rules

Post by SnyperEye » Fri Sep 23, 2011 11:13 pm

LUXSHOPPE - THE RETURN

Here's how it works:

A LuxShoppe Showdown is a battle between 2 luxers using the powers of adobe (or adobe like powers). During the first round Luxers are randomly paired up to do battle.

The Showdown
-Each luxer involved in a LuxShoppe Showdown gets 2 jabs.

-Each jab must occur no more than 2 days after the last one was posted.

-If 2 days expires then the last luxer to jab is declared the winner.

SIGN UP NOW!

The Jabs
-Tournament ringmaster will decide who must complete the 1st jab.

-Each Jab must consist of a thumbnail jpeg, posted in your battle thread, and a .psd file passed between players via e-mail.

-The opponent then has up to 2 days to create a new image from that .psd file and post it and send the new .psd to their opponent.

-And so and and so forth until each player completes their 2 jabs.

The Rules
-Each jab image must have some element of the previous jab image visible, it cannot be a totally new image.

-The image must have something to do with the theme decided on by the ringmaster, Lux, Sillysoft, inside jokes, stuff in the forums, world domination, etc. You can use any imagery you'd like as long as it pertains to the above mentioned stuff.

-A showdown cannot be launched with just a single image it must be a compilation of at least 2 images or graphic elements.

-Players can only post images during their turn.

The Motivation

-Once the battle is completed, QUASAR!!! chooses a winner and the winning player advances. We all point and laugh at the loser.

- The winner of the entire tournament gets their winning jab displayed for all eternity in the holy Art Gallery plus a shiny .Gif award in their trophy case. With that privelage they get to gloat and treat others as feable losers. If you already do that, no worries, now you'll be justified in doing so.

Whoever would like to play just sign up here.

At the end of luxtober only one will be crowned Luxshoppe Champion!!!

Can I make a suggestion -

Team Luxshoppe option - Continue to allow single entry's - but say if one guy has a good wit and extensive Lux Lore knowledge to draw from, but does not have the shop skills - they could team. Also - for example, if two pro-shoppers want to partner up for the team, and they make it to the semis' and one has a job they have to get out, the whole thing is shot due to a no show.

Besides - its more fun to make fun of 2 people

Just sayin'

If this flies - i'd like to partner with someone who knows Photoshop

Well since the competition seems underwhelming I guess I could throw my hat in the ring as fodder for someone.

I might have to learn something about photoshop...... and being creative.

I'll give it a go as well. I am not a photoshop person - so let me ask this. Do we have to use Photoshop, or will other programs work? I recall some requirement about sharing your work with the other person - but that could have been just in the semis/finals...

What is the best editing software for Macbooks? Still photoshop?

I guess I'll give it a whirl.

Photoshop is still the best for photographs.

I only have Photoshop until October 14th, though... I'll probably have to switch to Gimp and/or Inkscape then.

Engie, I forbid you to give it a whirl. For Whirl at the present moment is overwhelmed with work, house, husband, father, duties.

Might I suggest you give it a para, or a maz, or a snype, and if those don't work you can try a "taking it for a spin?"

So whats the deal here? Is this cancelled due to lack of interest?

Perhaps an 8 bit - low tech version, of this challenge, for those who lack the specific photo-shop skills.

I don't think this is a good idea para,... you already have an awful lot on your plate. Do you think you have enough time to put the head of Lord Quasar on the body of a shaved llama?

(para: I really, really wish the quote and edit buttons were the other way around sometimes.)

I hadn't signed up earlier, 'cause of my other Luxtoberfest commitments, but today I realized that Luxshoppe could be a nice stress reliever or diversion, something to help me unwind in between fits of data mining or web design or whatever. I can't promise that all of my jabs will be art museum quality, some are bound to be rushed, but that's alright in my book. Besides, I think a llama's head would look better on Quasar's half naked body, not the other way around.
