Skipping rounds during armies allocation

Post by Marcellus » Tue May 31, 2016 9:40 am

Hi --

A persistent bug I have on all three machines I installed LdL on, that I didn't see described elsewhere (If I overlooked, please correct me):

Frequently, allocation of armies goes well for a while, letting each player one after the other choose to place their armies. Then it suddenly skips two or three players, letting the others continue allocating as before... So at the start of the game, there's very uneven numbers.

I'm playing on MacOS X.10 Yosemite's: a MBAir, a 2009 iMac and a 2009 MacMini, all updated as far as possible and with maximum memory, and it occurs on all installations. I always play with two Reaper enemies (if more, I restart): I play cards are 5, 10, 15, 20, ... and bonuses go up 10% per round, with random starting order. I'm always the only human, black and white are reaper, two enemies are "hard", one is "other": https://www.dropbox.com/s/c7ldl807vjpwc ... 4.png?dl=0

Mostly it seems to occur irregularly: E.g. playing some Castle Lux maps, I'm seeing it occur once in maybe four rounds; if it's not too unfair I'll play otherwise I restart map and it's normal (3 our of 4 times). However, the larger the number of countries, the more frequently it happens... and on Downtown Delux it ALWAYS happens: Screenshot of INFO table at first round -- https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7fwncbh7qpzc ... 9.png?dl=0 where each starts with 144 countries. Basically, all goes well until I've been given 216 armies --- from then it skips me plus the one before me, and others occasionally.

Step by step:
1--- at start, each 144 countries with one army except the last [white] which has 145: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b2f4v2lrxux7x ... 4.png?dl=0
2--- it goes well until we reach 216 armies: Here everybody has 212 except the last which has 213, and the first [yellow] which already has 216: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lpx2to1pn4oi3 ... 7.png?dl=0
3--- then it runs without me: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vx8ad4hr7zgeo ... 5.png?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2kg4tgim0bl1b ... 5.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/frs15fmt34bu7 ... 7.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ykrwqkeu03xpv ... 9.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/o2khp6ek3wa5f ... 0.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/j0lz8olhud15d ... 6.png?dl=0
4--- So when it's finally my term, the numbers are quite unequal: https://www.dropbox.com/s/j0lz8olhud15d ... 6.png?dl=0
So you see the numbers are very uneven... me and the one just before me have the fewest armies, but others have been occasionally skipped as well.

In games with smaller numbers of countries, it doesn't seem to be so systematic (sometimes yes sometimes no), but in this map it's ALWAYS at 216 armies that it goes wrong, and always the guy before me that's treated just as badly. In the Black Lagoon map (my favourite), it occasionally happens to others not me.

It started to occur (or: i noticed) about a month ago, and it's on three computers independently (well, sharing the same licensing code); I'm travelling so have only the MBAir at hand; the others are my work desktop (ehm...) and the family's shared/entertainment/DVD-viewing machine.

Any idea?

It's possible this is the preference setting "Extra starting armies for last players" which was increased a little while ago. You could try turning off this preference and see what happens then. Find it in the Preferences window, Game Options tab, near the top right.

Cheers,

Indeed the very first match with the "increase armies" turned off was first time Downtown Delux gave a fair distribution, so that button must be involved...

But: with "increase armies" turned on, it gives 50-50 fair-unfair distributions on e.g. Black Lagoon. And as seen in the screenshots I'd included, it was mixed in order which players got more or less.

Anyway, it's playable now. Before, Reaper immeately attacked the smallest player on the Downtown map.
