Beta map access

Post by dustin » Thu Mar 15, 2007 7:33 pm

If you want to be able to see the beta maps in the plugin manager, follow these instructions. However, note most beta maps are in beta for a reason. They can have broken connections or other problems in them. They get fixed up and then released to everyone when they are ready. Most people probably do not want to see beta maps. I advise most people to not do this. If you must, here's how:

1. Start or join a network game, so you get a chat-area.

2. Type /set showBetaMaps in a chatarea. Capital letters matter.

3. Delete your Support/Cache/pcache.luxdata file and restart Lux.

You should now see beta maps in your plugin manager.

To turn it off, repeat the steps but do /set showBetaMaps false as the command.

Awesome!

Is there a way to mark a map as "beta" or is it just up to the mapLAB to hold off on releasing it before we can get our feedback/changes in?

If you want to make sure the mapLAB doesn't release your map yet, then include something like "BETA: do not release yet" at the start of your map description.

I dedicated this thread to the process of showing beta maps in the plugin manager. I would prefer it if you left talk of it out of other threads, directing people here instead if necessary. I really don't want most people having this turned on anyways.

btw, just because i encountered this problem,
after you complete dustin's instructions,
you might also have to delete the plugin cache

instructions can be found here
http://sillysoft.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... 256#147256

or simply
