Hmmm...maybe we can expand on that, and have the DC Metro Area. You know, DC, a healthy chunk of Maryland, and good ol' Northern Virginia.theAirportoflove wrote:I just finished a map of Maryland with DC included. I'll put that up once it looks better.
After all, it's all practically the same place out here... cept DC's crazy laws.
West Virginia Then
West Virginia Now
It seems that in general you guys and gals seem to prefer the historical state maps over the ones set in modern times. So, should I focus only on the historical ones instead of trying to do a then and now for each state?

Did anyone have any comments on that or is the para question more important? It seems that in general you guys and gals seem to prefer the historical state maps over the ones set in modern times. So, should I focus only on the historical ones instead of trying to do a then and now for each state?

has anyone done maryland yet? I live in MD, and thought it might be nice to make it my first map , since I know the area and other 'little' stuffs
Maybe layer a few blue crabs in the layout, once I learn how, heh.
Of course there are northern mountains ... and a few Major Rivers, including the Chesepeake Bay.
Possibly put an 'Old Bay' symbol up , hidden somewhere in the map ... just for kicks.
Definitely need to make Baltimore, Annapolis, and D.C. cities. Although I don't think D.C. should be a bonus, considering it is not part of Maryland ... hmmmm, I could have some fun with this!

The first post of this thread contains a complete list of the states that have been done and the ones that haven't. Dustin keeps it up to date as new states come in. Currently there is no Maryland. Even if there were, it should not prevent you from submitting one.kitty on catnip wrote:has anyone done maryland yet?

I have a map of North Carolina in BETA stage right now. I'd really really appreciate it if some of you guys can take a look at it and give me some feedback. It's similar too and was inspired by RG's Arms Race map. Feel free to send a PM or e-mail or we can start a new thread if that's easier.
Thanks in advance for anyone that helps

so, guys, I'm thinking about putting delware into my map, and a bit of virginia. To create more countires, and allow for more strategy.
Would you still accept this as a maryland Map, if I do it artistically?
I'm thinking about keeping the image above, but just adding onto it from neighbouring states. what do you think?

Yeah, that sort of thing is allowed. As long as Maryland is the dominant area, make your map the best playable map you can.

Well, guys, I titled this version 'Final Draft Beginning'.
I am going to really clean it up a bit, resizing the countries, changing the shapes that are within the chesapeake borders, and aligning some things.
Basically, use a one pixel outliner of grayish-black, and trace the entire map region of the border of the chesapeake, to create an illusion of depth. At the same time, it will give the idea the water is actually 'doing something'.
Hopefully also take away some of the discoloration around the country edges by fine tuning a nicely done .PNG ground layer.
And tracing continent borders with a whitish line, like sun tzu does, to create a visual effect, that allows you to see continents easily. Maybe throwing in a few other fine touches to it, my 'Final Draft End', will hopefully be finished in the next few days.
Any criticism would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you everyone for being so helpful in this process! It's a total blast seeing it come together, and being able to host it!

Hey guys, I just uploaded my theme files and stuff. I created my own background, foreground, and overground.
I just realized there was one little error in the country pathing. And I needed to change the western bordering country to baltimore, so it doesn't look like you can connect to it, cause there 'should' be water there.
also, the pixels seemed a 'bit' off...I know I started the sizes in the original 'new file' menu, ex: Length 750 height 365. That was my size for the past week...then somewhere, it changed too 748/ 365, and even a 750/366.
I'm hoping once I make a few more revisions, I can re-submit the map.
If any of that makes any sense with the pixel sizes, please let me know any reasons that may be, and if I can fix it.
I also accidentally saved all my 'layers' into a JPEG file, rather than the photoshop file, lol...I can't retrieve the numerous layers, under 'one' map, so working it out is hell now.
better luck next time, I guess...lol.
