Classic/Hex Love Child!!!!

Post by mud » Wed Oct 10, 2007 3:20 am

Anyone more skilled than I, interested in making this map design?

I think it would be an interesting perspective change to an old favorite.

As you can probably tell by the colors some countries are single hexes and some doubles.

Very creative. Gameplay would still be identical to classic, right? Just on a hex board? Reminds me a bit of Luxcel in that regard.

Gameplay would definitely be different from classic. Just compare the borders and country counts.

Mud, are you trying to make classic look like a hex map, or do you want this specific design?

it looks the same to me regarding borders/country counts - remember, the same color is a "joined hex"

So in the red "South America" the two dark red=venezuela, the light pink=brazil, with the other two peru and argentina...etc.

As far as I could tell, the connections are identical to classic?

Exactly.

Despite that it is the same map I expect the game play would change because the perspective of the map would change.

Its embarrassing how long it took me to make it work so that everything bent enough so that Kamchatka and Alaska connected. I came up with the idea over a year ago but couldn't make it work logistically. I have about 40 paper rough drafts.

Booze is another hex style map that plays very similar to classic, but not exactly the same.

Mud, do you like the vertical layout like above or would you rather it be flipped horizontally? (90 degrees counterclockwise)

You are the man Random.

I just have the concept, I will leave the artistic layout to the artist.

Looks like fun - Continent connections are the same - but the country connections are definitely different - would make for an interesting map as Mud has made it IMHO

Look closer, country connections are the same also if you know which is which.

The best way is to just wait until it comes out of beta. If you really want to see maps before they are ready for release, see here.

hmmm - looks like Eu has a few extra countries - and Africa looks a little like it has more than 3 entrances - I stoped looking at differences there -

Nice looking map though.

It really is identical guys. There are some joined hexes that take up 2 spaces, but act as 1 country.

It looks like a lot of fun to play on. I look forward to seeing it as a Map of the Week.

Its funny how different the map looks even when its IDENTICAL to classic. Try playing it, you will see.
