(No reason to change a good thing.)
Siege Lux is a treacherous map and often results in wild endings like we saw today. Good games all-around, and I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Anyways, it looks like most teams are getting close to satisfying their minimum participation requirements. Bane, Fire and Air have completed theirs, while Virtue and Earth just need two more games each. Water, unfortunately, seems to be in an unfortunate spot, and I'm not sure where they go from here. Hopefully, their active members won't be discouraged, and will play out the remaining games for sake of pure fun.
As for the remaining games, based on minimal feedback, I've decided on:
WED 1/25/12 - 7pm EST
CASTLE INFINITY - MAP GENERATOR
FRI 1/27/12 - 1pm EST
CASTLE LUX - THE LAST KING
I can flip those times, so we're early Wednesday and late Friday, or I can shift one day forward or backwards.
(Suggestions still welcome, but I think this will work best for the most people involved.)

Those times look good to me,
My only concern is the finals.
Unfortunately I won't be able to play on any Sunday unless i catch a game starting after 8pm EST.
That said, good luck to all in this final stretch.
It's been fun games so far.
/me complains only with his bad luck of being placed avg of 5th in the starting order.

I think every team goes through their good days and bad, unfortunately yesterday(1/23) was not a good day for the our team WATER, best seen. The team is built, my participation is the first tournament you are and knowing me as I am to meet you. I love to participate and cheer for what I believe.
The hour of Wednesday(1/25) 7pm EST and Friday (1/27) 1pm EST are good for me. WATER - ENGIE -GLU - DEEZ NUTZ - MENTOR 9 - PRECIUS - LUIZZE, we will not have much to discourage game ahead we have everything to make a brilliant tournament.
When I play really not kidding, I'm serious about something important that I believe and I'm learning to love. Here is the start of great and lasting.
I am a NEW FRIEND, but they can believe and trust in myself and my feelings. .!!!

Welcome to Lux, Luizze. This is a wonderful statement. Thanks for your enthusiasm and openness. It's inspiring.luiz zenni wrote:When I play really not kidding, I'm serious about something important that I believe and I'm learning to love. Here is the start of great and lasting.

I cannot play at all on Wednesday, but I will be there on Friday and looking forward to the Wheel of Start Fortune to turn our way.paranoiarodeo wrote: WED 1/25/12 - 7pm EST

Thank you, para, for tracking start order. In every game I've played and watched start has, for the most part, determined the outcome. You can get into a castle earlier, and you can cash ahead of everyone else. It's proven to be a massive advantage. I feel like starting sixth is like being in the outside lane in a track meet, except the starts are not staggered: you're on the line with everyone else, but you have to travel SO much farther around that first and second turn to catch up. You're behind even before you begin.
I know it's as random as random can be, and every team has gotten a taste of it, so I'm not grousing. Over time, these things will balance out. The question really is, how MUCH time - and whether these last two days of play will be AIR'S time.
If I have anything to say about it, it will be. Prepare to bleed on Friday, people.

I think the start positions can be slightly deceiving. Starting first in a card game with cards 5, 10, 15 is actually not the ideal position. You are obviously much less likely to die starting first but the best actual position for that setting I believe is 3rd. Obviously for income maps it's going 1st.3DA wrote:I cannot play at all on Wednesday, but I will be there on Friday and looking forward to the Wheel of Start Fortune to turn our way.paranoiarodeo wrote: WED 1/25/12 - 7pm EST

I guess I'm simply saying that purely starting position doesn't tell the whole story.
True, Starting position does not do so.
I started 5th or 6th in the 1 game i did win and finished 2nd (i think) on another one.
But there are some maps like the one yesterday that in combination of starting 6th and the bad random leave you with little to no chances.
I might have been able to escape 6th place finish had i played my position a little better but getting better than 5th would have required a miracle.
That said,
It's all random and you can only blame your bad luck on those situations.
---------------
As per Kude's question, there is no theme to it.
Random generators cannot manipulate the theme of a map, making it impossible to have a theme that would not interfere with the random countries generated by overlapping their visibility.

There are other important variables in play, including the individual player strategies, dice and card luck, random country assignment and army placement, etc. Worse, you're linking starting position with score, which is further influenced by kill bonuses and time penalties. But honestly? This is neither the time nor place to get into a discussion about that sorta thing. As I mentioned in game chat yesterday, in the future, I'd be willing to coordinate tournaments with scenario starts and a perfectly even distribution of starting orders, but that sorta thing would require more time and effort than I'm willing to give as a volunteer moderator. Until then, we've gotta make the best of our current situation, and fussing about something that may or may not be significant only detracts from the fun.

just to be clear, not all mods are volunteers? They get... payed? aw, whatever. Seems unlikely that that would happen anyway...
The scenario thing would be boring. Plus, who would decide who goes first? Would it be a cycle thing? The randomness is a little more fun. (Except in Shogun, two person scenario is alot more fun)

Kude, you are being CLEAR in a statement ,yet you ask the question if all mods are volunteers and u sem to KNOW that we get paid, yet you ask it? now, lemme tell you, that i've been a mod goin on my 3rd yr, and have not received, nor asked for, a brass razoo (and money) the whole time......
Besides the ODD occasion of Dustin perhaps "donating" or "sponsoring" a luxer, there has never been any instance of mods being on the payroll........
However, more importantly, whay does mods getting paid have ANYTHING to do with scenario starts, or random orders??

There, i fixed that for yamazza wrote:"just to be CLEAR, not all mods are volunteers. They get played."
Also, i call bs on mods not getting paid.
How does Mazza explain all that booze stacked in his fridge?
I know he doesn't get'em for free.
Why would anyone ever want to do anything for free?
/me looks in the mirror and wonders what madness drove him and all the other map makers in building maps all these years.....
PS. These past few posts made me laugh more than you can imagine.
Between all the faulty logic, bad spelling and down right absurdity there is a really funny story to be said
/me awaits for para's facepalm post
