First week of June - Back to Classic FINAL SHOWDOWN. The top 6 qualifiers will come together at a time that works for them and battle it out for the 2016 Classic title!
Original Post:
I'm thinking about hosting a "Back to Classic" tournament, to get a little more competition going on the Classic map. Would this be something you guys would be interested in?
I am imagining it as an open qualification round, lasting for 2-4 weeks, where anyone can join in, perhaps even using the Classic ladder as the leaderboard. Then at the end, the top 6 players would face off in a Classic map finals showdown.
Thoughts?
Re: Back to Classic event
But would classic games with settings like 50% income 5,10,15 cards also count?
Re: Back to Classic event
Also what rules, scoring, format and other possible variations, as PJB pointed out, will be acceptable?
I would hope that you advertise the tournament in a newsletter or some other format to INFORM users/players of upcoming events and any upgrades/updates to lux.
What are the prizes for the tournament? Anything besides some shinny pixels? A lux t shirt? coffee mug? Free ancientempires lux reg? some belly lint from Q. Sacks?
Timeframe? Aprilish? Mayish? Summerish? Luxtoberfest?
In summary: DETAILS!!! PLEASE!!!

Hmm, that's not my intention. I guess if I used the Classic leaderboard, they would technically count. Although I haven't seen many people actually playing those settings, so I don't think it would affect things much.PJB wrote:But would classic games with settings like 50% income 5,10,15 cards also count?
I would be encouraging more typical Classic settings.
Re: Back to Classic event
A physical prize is a fun idea.
Time-frame I am thinking late April or May...

If there are people interested in hosting or hyping up some Classic games during May, that would be helpful.
In early June, I will host the finals with the top 6 qualified players, for the Back to Classic prizes!

Hmm. Following through. That's a silly approach.
Re: Back to Classic event
So there are 0 tournaments this month then dustin?
Any plans for future tournaments?
Re: Back to Classic event
This is intended to help Classic players get more Classic games going. I'm not the biggest classic player myself, but wanting to help Classic get more play.
I hyped it in the last newsletter, and will again in the next one as the month gets going. I can't host much actively right now, but will set a couple dates to be there as the end of the month approaches:
Thursday May 26th - come on Back to Classic! I will be hosting Classic games throughout the day!
Tuesday May 31st - last day of the month to qualify. I will be hosting Classic games all day long, till Midnight EST.

Re: Back to Classic event
Are any classic game settings acceptable for the tournament?
and what of the mystery bling blings that we may or may not be competing for?

Classic is Aristotelian,n00less cluebie wrote:Hmmmm I'm not sure Plato would agree, Baden
Classic (5, 10, 15) is Platonic, and
Biodeux is Kantian

Because they're both so boring, I would suppose.Symbio wrote: Classic (5, 10, 15) is Platonic

unfortunately it seems to be frozen. I cannot enter the room, too.Big Will E Style wrote:Classic room just froze... May Fools?
I think Dustin rooms regularly auto-reset, so i hope it will be back soon. If not, then i will set the setting of the other room to the typical classic settings in the meantime as i think there should be a working classic room with "normal settings" (maybe it is only me, but i personally don't like 50% in classic at all)

Re: Back to Classic event
The room freezes and boots Spider and me and then finishes the game giving us 5th and 6th with RAW losses.

This is definitely a problem that needs fixing, Dustin.
Re: Back to Classic event
Sorry for the inconvenience. I hope Dustin can fix these problems for future. Thanks for the info BWE.
Additional info for Dustin (maybe it might help to find the cause of the problem): nobody could enter the room. The other TITAN AND EUROPE hosts were online and working at that time (so it is likely not the ISP Connection of the server). I could enter there.
Re: Back to Classic event
The europa host is running Classic Widescreen, with settings that are almost the same. The exponential cards change it up if the game goes longer. If the Widescreen map is bigger then you're used to, use the Map menu -> Resize Map Smaller command (a few times) to get it the size you like.
Games in the fast Classic host will count for qualifying, since it also marks on the Classic leaderboard. I set that host up for Baden, since he likes to play those settings, but doesn't have a stable hosting situation of his own.
The sessions I'll be hosting use traditional settings (maybe a bit of exp cards), and expect that in the finale as well...
