MAFIA XXI: THE ARENA

Post by Capicola » Sun Dec 05, 2010 8:23 pm

MAFIA XXI: THE ARENA
(Inspired by the popular book series, The Hunger Games)

For the past 20 years, since the beginning of the new regime, the president of Luxtopia calls for a tournament. This tournament is unlike any other. It has no age limits, it is open to men and women, girls and boys… it has no race or creed or religion.

It is a tournament to remind the starving masses that President Dustin must never be questioned, or he will turn their regions into burning wastelands.

From each of the 19 regions, champions are randomly drawn. The champions are immediately hurried onto helicopters before they're taken away to the Capital. Some never are given the chance to say goodbye to their families… some already have no families at all.

Some victors are children, some are men, some are too old to walk across the street. Yet all of the victors have something in common…

They have just been chosen to compete in the 21st Annual Mafia Tournament.
It is a tournament to the death.
There can only be one victor.

The 21st Annual Mafia tournament takes place in a dome simply known as "The Arena." The arena is neither inside nor outside, and it changes from year to year. All of Luxtopia is forced to watch as each regional victor struggles in the hopes to be that one person who gets to see his or her home again…

For a number of weeks, the regional champions are trained, acquainted, interviewed, and glorified. Until, the day finally comes when they must enter the arena…

Daytime 1

Post by Capicola » Sun Dec 05, 2010 8:40 pm

At the same time, the 19 champions rise into the arena on their own circular platforms. Each are punctuated in a large circle in the center of the seemingly infinite arena.

Let the 21st Annual Mafia Tournament begin!

Immediately, many champions dart toward the center of the circle they are standing in. At the center of the circle, there are piles of different death weapons, food, containers, and many items that don't seem to have any immediate use.

Capicola of region 19 hurries into a wooded area and climbs the highest tree he can find.

From the top of the tree, Capicola can see the layout of the arena. Far away there is a lake, to the left there are woods, and to the right, a steep mountain. The area seems to go on for miles.

Capicola can make out that one players has gotten away with a first aid kit, while another player has made it away with a tracking device. Of course, each competitor was fixed with a tracking device before the event...

Capicola notices that a small group of players seemed to have made an alliance and are heading to the mountain together.

"Those are the people I should watch out for," Capicola says.

For the first time in Mafia Tournament history, it appears that all of the players have made it away from the circle with their lives. Capicola should be safe for now.

18 other players struggle to disperse themselves.

--

It is now DAYTIME.

Please cast your votes to ELIMINATE or cast a vote to NOMINATE a town spokesman to perform the daily killing.

Important Notes:
1) You can either vote directly to eliminate someone, or you can vote to NOMINATE someone to perform the daily killing.
2) You may never abstain from voting.
3) The character of Capicola is simply part of the story; he can neither be voted for nor killed
4) There is no Godfather; the Mafia each vote for whoever they would like to kill; the player with the majority of the Mafia's votes will be killed in the night.

Daytime 1 will end promptly at 9 PM EST on December 6th, 2010.

It wasn't specified in the rules, but I presume you can change your vote up until the end of the day?

I vote for the Region 19 champion - Capicola

Is that the same as abstaining in a sneaky way?

We are already at great risk here people. I believe the attack on the first night missed telling us they already know who the doctor is.

How should we approach this?

Guys, come on.

It's pretty obvious the game began with a Daytime.

And needless to say, you can change your votes until 9PM EST today.

QUESTION: If someone is voted the town spokesman.... Do they vote after the day ends for someone to eliminate? Or do they need to already have voted for someone in the thread?

If they vote to eliminate someone after the day ends, I think it would be smart if we nominate a town spokesman... that way if someone doesn't vote... they can just vote to eliminate the non-voter.

OR would that not work? Since the non-voter would already be dead?

Help Capi... I'm confusing myself.

voting for a spokesman this early in a game is a bad idea.

He acts as a vigilante appointed by the people by having the power ti kill someone at night.

This early in the game he will most likely (based on the odds and no info whatsoever) kill an innocent person.

On the other hand there is always a chance that a mafia member gets nominated.

That's even worse since they would end up killing two innocent people in one night.

I will vote for Nooless for no reason other than we have to vote for someone and we cannot afford to have a draw and kill multiple innocents. I will change if someone can give me a good reason to.

yeah, eno is right.

someone will die today, either by our vote or by decree of a spokesperson. That can't be prevented.

but if we vote for someone to be lynched, the odds are better that we get a mafia member than if we vote for someone to be spokesperson.

hmmm...will have to think about who to vote for.

I'll try to explain this as simply as I can.

At the end of Daytime (9 PM):

1) I will eliminate all players who have not voted.
2) If you guys elected a spokesman, I will request he or she casts a vote to eliminate a player.
3) Nighttime begins, night actions, etc.
4) Daytime begins again

Please note that the spokesman casts his or her vote right here in the thread, and it is by no means a "night vote." It happens at the end of the day, and it entirely public. Not sure where you're getting your info, Eno. I never said it was a night vote.

I agree with Eno; a spokesperson could be pretty dangerous at this stage of the game. (Also, Capi, what happens if a spokesperson is chosen, and they don't vote/respond that day?)

Provisionally voting n00less, to avoid breaking his whirlplaiding streak...

We definitely shouldn't vote for a town spokesperson.

I'm only going to vote for someone who hasn't voted yet, since they'll be killed anyways.

I vote for Enzo1997. If he chimes in before the deadline, I'll switch my vote to someone else who hasn't voted yet.

I don't like shooting in the dark here, but shooting in the dark is better than getting eliminated for not voting.

I'm going to follow the crowd on this one and vote for N00less.

I don't like shooting in the dark either, but I do like SHOUTING in the dark, and I shout n00less!! (only because I want him dead so he can stop coining the "I pulled a whirlplaid" line).

I'll switch to kude, b/c unlike him I _HAVE_ voted, and anyone voting for me on no evidence when there are better candidates are highly suspect.
