BotOfDoom

Post by AquaRegia » Sun Sep 11, 2005 9:44 am

BOD is a very good opponent, but seems to have some problems...

I'm playing Europe Empire (large map, lots of conts) with 5 bots (one BOD), and the better BOD does, the longer he takes. Even with 30 second turn times, I get "0 seconds - waiting for host..." for up to two minutes while BOD ponders his move. This gets progressively worse as he controls more territory.

When he is beaten back and his position simplifies, his turns get fast again.

I'd hate to stop using him, but it's just not fair - MY turns end after 30 seconds - so should his.

I decide to check in here after a long while and there's a thread named after my bot :o

Yes BotOfDoom takes a long time on big maps. As I recall, he looks at *every* country on the board to see if he should try to take it, and this takes a long time because he has to calculate the optimal path for him to take to each one and so on. And then once he's take one he does it over again...

I might find time to make him faster. I agree that it's really annoying to have to wait 2 minutes for BoD to move

I've had BoD hang for 10-20 minutes making his "decisions"...I've even timed him once (and only once) at 37 minutes.

"bod commaNDS have never worked for me..." - I assume you're meaning the commands like "bod team on" and such. You probably don't have the latest version of BotOfDoom, because the Plugin Manager has been having problems with updating stuff. The sure way to fix things is to find BotOfDoom.class (in Lux\Support\Agents\ on Windows), delete it, and reinstall the bot. The latest version should respond to "bod help"
